Actually, after looking again at the book, it says that a contemporary German drawing shows a red turban on a 3rd CLD. Below is one of the illustrations I've seen of this. There is another in "The American Soldier" by Philip Katcher.
It seems that there is a lot of mystery surrounding these uniforms and there is little real evidence to go on. I haven't seen any good evidence that they wore blue turbans either, just an illustration in an Osprey book and the plate from the Company of Military Historians. Some artists just show them without turbans and avoid guessing alltogether.
