Actually, after looking again at the book, it says that a contemporary German drawing shows a red turban on a 3rd CLD. Below is one of the illustrations I've seen of this. There is another in "The American Soldier" by Philip Katcher.

It seems that there is a lot of mystery surrounding these uniforms and there is little real evidence to go on. I haven't seen any good evidence that they wore blue turbans either, just an illustration in an Osprey book and the plate from the Company of Military Historians. Some artists just show them without turbans and avoid guessing alltogether.

Barry, I know the drawing you're talking about. Care must be taken when using such things as a source as I'm not convinced that they're that accurate even if done during the period. I've seen other drawings and the uniforms/clothing just look a little bizzare. I do not have the Company plate of the 3rd, but I'd go with the blue turban. ~Gary
