Hi :) ,

I little update on this one , I'm still thinking of the atmosphere the bust should express (and to the details I must sculpt to achieve the good result, like a winchester in the back and a cigaret ! ) .

I hope you like it ! :)

Re: cowboy update

Great looking face on the in progress cowboy. I would love to see this bust available to paint...I have been clamoring for a cowboy bust for some time from sculptors.

I would personally recommend adding a bandana to his neck area. The idea of a cigarette dangling from his mouth would be a nice touch…. A Winchester would not be carried on the back, but carried in a rifle scabbard on one's horse. The American West is a favorite period of mine and I can provide references.

Is the cowboy wearing an overcoat or slicker?

I appreciate your efforts and will look forward to seeing more on this bust. Great idea by the way!

Re: cowboy update

The facial features and hair on this guy lend themselves to an African or African-American subject to my eye. Although not nearly as common, there were certainly black cowboys to be found. But the earrings are just throwing me a little. No self respecting cowboy would would have fancied an earing back in the day, let alone two I'm thinking. Not sure where you're going with this, a modern twist on a classic cowboy, or a period dude, but I might look into the earring situation. And yes, the face is fantastic on this guy, you have a great start on an interesting project to be certain!

Thanks :)

One of my favorite source of inspiration is moebius for sure :) . On this one, I was influenced by rought sketches of blueberry, and by many other illustrations , sculptures and movies .
I don't know if this one will be released and wich company could be interested .
I will think about keeping the earing or not .
Concerning this point and the winchester point : I rarely focus on the historical "truth" , but more on the feeling and the story my character tell. Sometime, surprising attributes and objects create the atmosphere, the story of a character. Why this cowboy had earing ? Why his hair are so curly ( from his mother , his father ? ) . And sometime, it's good, from a dynamic and sculptural point of view to cheat with the "reality" . The Winchester that I may sugest in his back can add a lot of dynamic. But I'm interested by old cowboy pictures If you have !

Now that we know this is a piece of fiction and just something from your imagination, I say go for it! Anything goes and this guy is on the right track from what you described.

Re: cowboy update

(y) Outstanding face! To further inspire, I can't suggest better than to look up the paintings of the great Western artists - Remington, Russell and one that I like but is not as well known - Shreyvogel. All of these artists are widely available on the web.

All the best,
Dan
