I'm the wrong side of 40 and watching them now still makes me laugh. I think its the sort of humour that any age will like because my 10 yr old finds it funny too........dom

Cold steel.....they don't like it up em!!

Eventhough, I grew up watching British tv (still a whovian) and movies, I guess this one didn't get exported. My interest is now piqued, off to youtube!

Have just read that!........ Bless him. 92yrs...fighting the 'Fuzzy-Wuzzies',.. The days before political correctness!... I loved that series as a kid!

Yes Mark, they wouldn't get away with it now. The holier-than-thou metrosexual luvvies (who seem to be everywhere these days) would be foaming at the mouth and apopleptic with rage if a character in a modern show said something like "fuzzy-wuzzies".

In fits of self-righteous, politically-correct handwringing, they'd be tossing around their favourite buzz-words ("negative stereotyping" and all that bollox) like it was going out of fashion, and branding the whole thing as variously -ist and -phobic.

Humour vacuums all, and I say a rousing "ta fook wiv' 'em!!" - because they don't like it up 'em!!!

But for my part I "won't panic", and will instead this evening dig out my DVD complete series box set of Dad's and watch an episode or two as my own humble tribute to a man who has brought so much laughter to so many people over the years.

Now just imagine, you look out and there are 40,000 chaps wearing strange haircuts and waving rather large spears, do you take time to discuss the PC aspects of what to scream to the lads while loading your weapon.
"I say chaps there seems to be a rather large group of local chappies wearing rather fetching hair arrangements and waving rather tasty looking local implements."

I am sure these would be my very words.

Don

He played the Grandad character from a very young age in various tv comedies and was able to carry it off fabulously. Sad loss to great British comedy. Not many of the stalwarts of this level of humour left now.

They don't make em like that any more ....still makes me smile after all these years...Cpl Jones always bought to mind of My Great Grandad(Alf Hollis) who was a Grenadier Guard who actually fought at Omdurman against the fuzzies(can we still say that?)and they apparently didnt like it up em either....wahay

This, .. and 'Aint half hot mum'!. that was my early evening viewing as a kid!....... the days when we only had three channels. ... and I always hated that 'Bloody', test card!.........

I'll have to check this out more. I love British humor....it has a dryness that many don't get and a wit that is sorely missing in American TV. And Steve, it does my heart good to hear others rant the way I do about the "don't offend anybody, Politically Correct crowd".

I'm off to you tube. Y'all have a good day!

Kevin

Not sure how well Dad's Army translates over the pond I know Mrs Helm ( a VA girl bred and born) doesn't get some 90% of it
