A rather impressive piece but was a nightmare to assemble the blanket on the horse. Huge gaps, tons of filling, sanding, re-sculpting and re-coating.

Thumbnail picture (actual boxart) is of course the work of master painter Francesco Sapienza.

Now everything is assembled for the painting stage,

I started the process (as usual) with the face. This is the result of the first session, obviously a lots of clean ups and fixes needed in the second one.

You know there is a art form called rice grain engraving.

I feel you would need that level of skill and patience to paint the face of a 54mm figure well.

And you did it with such detail, contrast, and realism it looks like it's of a much larger scale.

P.S. a picture of rice grain engraving for your reference

Excellent start and face. Shame about all the fit and QC issues as Romeo charge a premium price and so, they should produce a like standard kit.

Look forward to seeing what you do with this next.

At least I got it on a special price last year at the Monte San Savino show :D

Well I apply base coats in a zenithal fashion so most of the raised edges and surfaces are basically grey.

Ah now that makes sense, you'd have thought I might work that one out myself but no, I have puzzled over this for years. It is only just recent I have started using grey, before that it was pure full coverage white, left over from painting flats I guess. Cheers for that.

Cheers Simon
