I have to agree with above sentiments about the displays especially about the I.W.M. When we visited the Imperial War museum recently my only outstanding memory was when the family had viewed the last exhibition room on the top floor which was dedicated to the Holocaust.
We decided to get the lift down to the ground floor.

The lift had the makers plaque inside...…...Schlinders Lift:eek:

:ROFLMAO:

As we were in London, we also visited the National Gallery and the British Museum. I was amazed at the number of tourists of all nationalities who simply stood in front and took photos of the exhibits and paintings, rather than actually "looking" at the displays! Why bother even going, when you could stay at home and look at pics in the Internet...??!!

Slightly OT but it's the same at most live music concerts these days, with armies of millenials holding up their phones and watching the gig on their tiny screens. That really boils my piss.

They may as well just stay at home and sit in front of YouTube all night.

There is very little mention of the Colonial Wars, probably due to the current PC brigade and precious little on the FIW, SYW, AWI, Napoleonic Wars, Crimea, etc.

Sadly the PC brigade and their agenda have become the dominant narrative now in the political establishment, the mainstream media and the education system. It doesn't bode well for the future as we continue - as a society - to commit slow cultural suicide by virtue-signalling.

Absolutely, Steve - as I sit in numerous teaching events, the emphasis is more and more about "how does this make you feel...?", "what are your thoughts when reading....?", "Do you think this is the right way to deal with....", rather than actual facts.

My feeling is that at that at school age, kids should be learning actual facts and events - and in my subject, manual skills - opinions can come later, once that facts can be evaluated. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.....o_O

I used to visit the NAM every time I took my wife up to Chelsea to visit her Uncle next door in the Royal Chelsea Hospital (who last year sadly passed away to the great parade square in the sky) and I must admit I was very disappointed with the new revamped NAM, Where have all the fantastic exhibits gone ?
All those fantastic real life 1:1 scale figures from throughout the ages are no longer on display? what's happened to Old Mrs Biddy carrying her wounded/sick soldier husband on her back during the retreat to Corunna, along with the little girl carrying the musket, and the fantastic 95th Rifles aiming his Baker rifle with filth & dirt so realistically displayed, the proud Crimean Highlander now gone.... just to name a few!...I don't get it? The displays were a 100 x better before the very costly revamping, the only improvement in my opinion was the new cafeteria, I will not be visiting the museum ever again!:(

I quite agree, Jim - I was so disappointed., having been explaining to my son how good it was!! I have tried to contact the museum on their contacts page, but it keeps throwing my message back - maybe their way of not having to field criticism...?!

Yeah it is such a shame!...Wonder what has actually been done with all the superb life size figures?...suppose just stuck in storage somewhere, I hope they haven't been scrapped..surely not?...Imagine having that 1:1 95th Rifles stood in the corner of your man cave..That'd be brilliant!(y)

I heard that the figure of the 95th is now at the Rifles museum in Winchester. Fortunately I bought the book and the postcards for the “Road to Waterloo” exhibition. It’s so sad that these marvellous illustrations of history have disappeared, much more effective in explaining history that these interactive touchy-feely loads of nonsense that are there today.

Cheers
