On trying to find a particular piece, I have stumbled across a long forgotten 'Hinchliffe, French Napoleonic', ambulance. Part built. Is there a recipe to dissolve glue! that has been in place for at least 30yrs. It looks like 'Evo-Stick' :cautious:

I would assume that this kit would have some lead content within the metal.

Any thoughts??

Regards,

Mark.

A good trick with plastic kits is to put them in a zip lock bag put them in the freezer for a while and the parts that don't fall off will easily come apart for you.

I have tried this method on another piece from 'Poste Militaire'. Result being abject failure.

What exactly happened, in that case? If the piece was made of white metal, the acetone shouldn't have affected the piece itself. Acetone will dissolve styrene, however. I'm not sure about all of the varieties of resin, but for those resin pieces I've built, the resin was impervious to acetone (I use it to thin putty and to clean up the excess).

I haven't tried the boiling water trick. Again, with white metal, that shouldn't affect the piece. The freezer trick works, though, too, and not just for CA glue, but also for styrene bits welded with styrene-specific glues. It makes the bonded area brittle and more likely to break under pressure, separating the pieces.

Prost!

I should add, too, that since I started using Super Clean to strip paint from metal figures, I have seen it soften older glue bonds, to the point where the pieces can be separated by pulling, without damaging them.

Thanks to all, I shall freeze it, Boil it, soak in Dettol, and shove it in the oven with hot needles. That should do the trick. :D

Very similar to my wife's cooking.:(
