I haven't posted since Mid-may, since I was invited to go elsewhere if I didn't like the site and how it was run. I do check in now and then and today I am very sad to see the incivility that has again arisen due to the ongoing conflict between those who are in favour of criticism of new releases and those who won't tolerate it, albeit for some good reasons. Amazing how we can have ten pages of good natured banter over a hot button issue like Brexit but we can't get along on a polarizing hobby issue.

But when the site tolerates name calling, suggestions that some are not welcome in our hobby, and classification of groups as "usual suspects" and "those people," I know I have overstayed.

I won't spit the dummy completely. I may one day return and post my projects if things get sorted out....but it ain't looking very likely.

A great shame to lose anyone mate.....fare thee well :)

Having just seen what is going on in the thread you are referring too I am afraid that you are not the last one ready to leave. If mods give a like to posts containing personal insults instead of trying to bring the thread back on track it is time to pause and reflect. See you somewhere else mate - stop posting here but don`t stop sculpting and enjoying the hobby!

Colin,

I am sorry to see you are dropping out. Might I suggest you remain and continue to make a substantial contribution to this forum? IMO it is the most friendly and helpful I have seen, only spoilt by a very few who don't have the decency or capacity to understand another person's point of view, or accept they might be wrong. The vast majority of members are decent, good natured people who make an enormous contribution, readily sharing information and supporting others in their endeavours. Its people like you we need on the forum, not the small number who lower the tone with their demeaning comments. By leaving you are are only conceding the floor to them. I have always noticed that those who resort to derogatory remarks do so because they are bereft of something worthwhile to add, or simply can't control themselves in a dignified manner. It is best to ignore them, and enjoy the company of the rest. Perhaps some firmer action by Mods to cut the less flattering and unacceptable language from a thread might help.

Mate the forum needs people like you to keep it strong and friendly.

Chris

Come on Colin, don't do this.
I hadn't seen the offending thread, but your post alerted me to it. Quite an inflammatory one indeed, but that just happens occasionally. We are all people and it is an illusion that us adults are any different from when we were still running around on the playhround harassing each other. You just couldn't mess with certain kids, because they have so many big friends that start to shout at you. And when has knowledge of some topic ever made any kid popular....nerd! :)
We just learned more dirty words to use.

Of course, like is said in the thread, the best thing is just to ignore such things. Good thing about the web is those kids don't get to actually punch you. If you don't respond, all thunder is stolen.

You seem to be quite a rational and sensible person....please stick around and contribute as you have done many years. Don't let someone else's shouting match influence you in this. Stick around and contribute to the civil side.
Up to you of course, but I don't think any other forum will be essentially different in this.

Cheers,
Adrian

I have to agree with Adrian. I've been to 3 or 4 other forums and experienced some, not constant, insensitivity and incivility, ignorance and rants without direction.

I think it has much to do with the times we live in.

On one site I had the temerity to ask about just adding a For Sale section and members howled.

On another when I asked questions about how a certain feature worked and why it worked that way, both members and moderators talked down to me.

I won't say PF is perfect, but I think I'm sticking here.

All the best,
Dan

That is a real shame Colin I've enjoyed seeing your work here, you will be sadly missed my friend .

Unfortunately it's the forum that loses out in the end as all the level headed folks gradually leave. :stop:

As to the guys that flame the threads - if you have nothing nice to say :censored:

Colin.

Another sad day, you'll be missed by many.

I TOO AM SICK OF THE CONSTANT DRIBBLE THAT DETRACTS FROM A POST ABOUT A FIGURE .....THIS IS A MODELLING FORUM LETS KEEP IT THAT OR OTHERS WILL LEAVE

Yet another awkward, impossible no win situation without upsetting several people either way of the argument.

Maybe it's time to shut down Planet Figure and the people concerned can start up their own figure forum and have the constant daunting task of dealing with running and dealing with forum issues and all the other associated tasks. I am sure you will be able to create the perfect forum with all perfect members without any issues and nothing to deal with!

I am sick of people saying that the admin and mods take no action when most of the time we are unable to as it's always a no win situation and any intervention from us still causes problems with people that do not like the decision and want to leave and send us pages of complaints.

You all got to do what you think is best for yourself, your decision is your own.

Tommi

Tommi,

I meant no criticism of the Mods - I understand and appreciate the excellent work you do to keep this forum running. All I meant was that a tougher stance on those who inflame threads might go some way to moderate their language. If it pisses them off no worries - the decent people will support you. They are the ones we want to stay and they make PF the excellent forum it is. Do you have a facility to cut rude remarks from a thread and ban those who overstep the mark after a warning.? It worked well on the Great War Forum when Chris Baker ran it.

Be assured mate we appreciate the work the Mods do.

Cheers
Chris

First time I did that Chris - in response to requests via PM from several members that I act on a thread that had turned into a train-wreck - I deleted a couple of very inflammatory posts (one from each party involved), and locked it down.

For my trouble I ended up losing a real-world mate (one of the squabbling parties) who sent me an "I-know-who-my-friends-are" e-mail. I also found myself being accused by a few others of "heavy-handedness", "censorship" and of "being on a power trip". And as the icing on the cake, my well-intentioned (but with hindsight probably misguided) attempt to bring the two sides together and take conflicting views into account ended with a thinly-veiled threat of violence from yet another member who hadn't even been involved in the original spat.

Looking for "sympathy"? Not at all. I learned years ago that you can't please all the people all the time. Either online or in the "real world". I mention this just to highlight Tommi's point that when these things flare up, we mods find ourselves in a no-win situation and inevitably end up pissing someone off. We just to try and make the best and fairest calls we can, on the (thankfully relatively rare) occasions that the need arises.

Be assured mate we appreciate the work the Mods do.

Thanks for your support Chris. (y)

An easy option is to click on the name of the forum member that causes problems to you with their posts. There is an option that pops up on the profile screen that says "IGNORE" click on this and you will never see any content again from that member, it's that easy!

Tommi

Hi Guys,

Mods ...an unenviable and at time dispairing position to be in , as Tommi said a no win situation at times

Close PF I certainly hope not for sure , in this world not everyone sees or thinks the same but this is as I said a modelling forum ...let's try and keep it to that ..but with friendly banter!

Stop hijacking threads with silly and often unrelated comments...you can also ignore folk as well by doing what Tommi said ..I have done this !

Happy modelling

I'm rellatively newbie here, my english is not as i want, so sometimes i don't really understand all that is wrotten at PF, and don't know a lot of things that happenned here. But as Adrian said, is a shame lost you. Hope you change your opinion and we watch your modellings again Collin.

Not a real mate Steve. More a fair weather friend; a real mate would respect your decision and take it on the chin.

I think they are called cyber bullies who hide in the ether, the worst kind of bully. In my experience bullies are cowards when it comes to the crunch. We don't need them on the forum, and would be better off without them. Its people like crf we need to stay.

We hear a lot about the rights of free speech and being able to express an opinion. But those rights come with responsibilities - like respecting other people's views and expressing one's opinion in language that doesn't denigrate or threaten people. If they want the rights, they need to exercise the responsibilities that go with them

Best wishes and have confidence that the vast majority of PF members firmly support the Mods, and a strong stance against the self opinionated cyber bullies. I certainly do, and I think a show of hands would support me.
