I've changed the name to Maynard from Manyard as it seems to be more likely.
I'm pleased to say he's now finished, a bit Hollywood in his appearance, but I think it works well.
It was very enjoyable to paint, and just a couple of areas that needed some extra work, but nothing
major.

Oh yes, he has come out well. I like the subtlety of the colours you used for the sash and trousers, that was inspired. All round class act. Congratulations

Hi Malc

Nice to see this finished off , agree with Melanie, the whole piece is as you said very Hollywood but you have done a fine result on him

A very colourful fellow

A good V Bench also so thanks for that https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/elliott-lucky-shot-manyard.667222/

This turned out incredibly well. I see this more as a "character" sculpt rather than an ultra-realistic depiction of a pirate, so your paint job fits it perfectly. Vibrant, full of character and some lovely details. You seem to have captured a vert effective suntanned look on the face, the leather work is fantastic and the clothing is all very nicely handled. A great effort all round.

Thanks Nap, I think the pose suited the Hollywood look, and as I say it was fun to paint and do a little experimentation.

That's worth a Wow Malc, it all works so well together, slightly theatrical, bold and bright with more character than one figure needs. Love it.

Cheers Simon

Fabulous work there Malc, I like this one a lot and you've really brought him to life.

It's all beautifully painted, but I'm particularly impressed with the finish you've achieved on the leather belts. That's something that I always struggle with. Any tips?!

Hi Steve, many thanks for your kind comments.

As for the leather work, the belt was initially given a basecoat of Vallejo Chocolate brown, following this some black was added and used to darken the edges.
This was dabbed on to give an uneven finish.
For the weathering/ scuffed appearance. I started off adding some random streaks with Scale 75 Walnut, them dabbing some Orange leather here and there to vary the effect. Orange Leather + Birch was used for the edges. For me personally it lacked a little vibrancy, so I added a glaze of burnt Umber oils.
( You can use artists acrylics to get the same effect.) I let that dry thoroughly before applying another coat.
To finish off and bring out the Orange a bit more I dabbed on some Rowney Chrome Orange Deep and carefully blended it in.

It's easy to vary the effect to suit whatever figure/bust your working on.
Hope this helps.
