Been doing some asking around today and found quite a few chaps who dont show much intrest in going back to Euo. Four that will go back at least for this year, one who might go back but not made up his mind yet and four who will never return. From my very small survey it seems to be 50/50 for continuing tp attemd Euro and thats only till next year.
How nice it would be if someone from Eoro came out and told the punters who pay for the place if the should start to make other plans!!

I have never attended Euro though it remains a fond hope to do so. I have however attended a number of shows. To think that anything concerning judging can change for the better is just wishful thinking I think. For one thing, "better" is so subjective as to be pretty much undefinable. One mans meat anothers poison and all that. I have found that for every painter who is offended by the judges decisions there are a bunch more who are pleased or pleasantly surprised. Believe me Don, I have been as frustrated by judging results as anyone on the planet (Earth that is), but in the end I had to ask myself what I was attending for. I found it necessary to do some soul searching about what I could expect and be pretty hard on myself to get to the truth. In the end a show is just one brief period out of a longer period of production. I cannot allow that brief period to disturb the joy I get out of slapping paint on the little critters. I like what I do so that is my guideline. If a few others out of the entire attendance of a show do not agree with me, as Kilgore Trout would say, so it goes. Good Luck, man.--

Steve, thanks mate very good advice but a tiny bit off the course. My original post last year was not about one person and certainly not me. No it was so bad last year that the judges were complaining as it was bringing them into disrepute. Makes funny reading if you can find the thread.
My thread was an attempt to stop the show going down the tubes and not much to do with the individual judging although I did see some shocking aards given. My post was more about what did not get awards rather than what won one.
The last figure I entered delghted me as that year I got the same as Jesus Ganarra, yes you guessed it one of his figures got nothing the same as mine.
I was trying to save what I see as the best show in the world. However there are plenty of others if I feel the need for change!

I have always dreamed of attending a major European show since seeing Euro showcased in MM many years ago. Maybe I will when I retire and get my many offspring though school. Up to a couple of years ago it was a no brainer that that show would be Euro. If I won the lottery and could attend any show on the other side of the pond next year, sadly I don't think Euro would be in my top 5 after rubber necking the recent judging pile-up. Not that my fantasy life will impact the producers of this show, but I think they should take into account the imapct that these controversies have an impact on prospective attendees.

Hi

I have never been to Euro before and don't think I will make it this tear either but a quick comment if I may on the judging, Unfortunately the problems with judging is the same in every type of competition where judging is done by those deemed the best in the chosen trade, the best of the best so to speak. You will always find the chosen few end up socializing with each other and probably even becoming friends, so its obvious that they will recognize each other style and work, especially as they probably seen it already when they popped round for tea and a chat. It happens and there is very little can be done about it, other than banning judges from entering. I happens in all types of competitions. Many moons ago I used to work as a Professional Photographer and one of the Prestigious competitions was the Kodak Gold Awards, these where judged by Past winners of Kodak Golds, and they became member of the Kodak Gold Award Club, where every month they got together and discussed each others work. It was of no surprise that over 90% of Kodak Gold awards went to past winners, as the Judges knew who the author was as they had seen it last week at the last meeting of the Gold Club.

Its the way of the world and the only people who object are the people that didn't win, the trouble is what happens when the Judges friend wins and that entry was actually the best, do you accept it won because it was better than yours or did he win because he was friends with the Judge.

Why don't we just stop knocking Euro? the points have all been made! the organisers will have made some changes but inevitably will not have agreed with all of the suggestions. The modelling scene in the UK would be a wilderness if it ceased to exist.................just be careful what you wish for............lets enjoy what we have.....the world isn't perfect.
If a few people have decided to stay away, then that is their right, and in my opinion their loss.............others will take their place and we will all have a good time.

Keith

Hear, hear Keith. My sentiments entirely, last year is now history and hopefully they'll have learnt something from it.I hope this years show is a cracker. The main bitch about Euro was all about the judging, but there's soooo much more to Euro that it will prosper in the future."Kids in a toy shop" springs to mind and all the mates you meet up with from all corners of the world.Need i say more.

I think its time people read what it says on the tin!!!!!!!!!! I have never once sayed anything against Euro or the show its self, I love it to much to do that. I have however made a lot of remarks about the judging which last year was so bad that the judges started the comments, actually at the show.

Keith you were at the show last year so could have taken part in some of the debate that went on at the show. A few people may stay away, granted but if anyone of the staff, who I believe read last yers post, had come out and said things will change the whole debate would have gone away, end of story. You have pointed out that "Changes have been made" but no one has any idea what they are.
I have always been happy with the judging ( but never liked the black look) untill last year. All it would have needed was one person to say "changes have been made" and I would go back to enjoying the judging.

Anyone who has never been to Euro would suffer if they were never to go. Its the greatest show in the world bar none as I have always said.
This year if the changes have been made, as Keith says they have, it will be back to being a wonderful show again. That was the reason for my first post way back last year!!!!!!!!!

Don

Hi Don, I think at this stage it is best to let things rest, it will never please everyone, what show ever does. What does concern me is the negative impact these threads may have on a great show. The points have been made, some influential people have viewed the thread and I am sure that changes will be made if they are seen to be needed. It would not be politic for the organisers to respond out of respect to the people who give their time and energy to make the show work. As a show organiser myself (In a different area) both home and abroad I know how difficult it is to get everything right and please everyone, the Euro organisers will react to positive criticism, be aware of market changes and respond accordingly...it is in their best interest and the long term future of the show to do so.

To All my aquaintances living outside the U.K. please keep coming to Euro and if you haven't been before you don't know what your missing. All the negatives on this thread, in the grand scheme of things ,are just a blip compared to the great time you will have and take it from me it's the BEST ALLROUND SHOW you could ever go to.
80 traders, great atmosphere, great eating places and good accomodation, fantastic views of the English channel while sitting out on the verandah having a wee cup of tea!!!!! O.k. the judging can be a bit dubious occasionally bur after the outcry of last years judging i'm confident that things will get better, but your never going to get everybody happy with the judging, no matter what show you go to.I've judged once at Euro and have been asked to judge every year since, which i've declined as it's not an easy process and it's very time consuming. What happened last year? God knows, and as i wasn't there i really can't comment personnally but the hullabaloo that it caused i can only assume that's a one off,as there has always been the odd whinge but not to that extent.
Don't let this thread put you off and take it from an old campaigner and just go and enjoy yourselves.
So endeth the sermon and i will for ever hold my peace.
Euro rules!!
