Thanks to all once again.

Well, I'm never satisfied with my result, so following the advice from a friend I decided to redo the head, this time with a more pronunced (squared) jaw.

Some folds (like the ones on the arm) still needs some adjustements.

Ok, this could be "how to get it hard with easy things...". I was looking for an alternate pedestal, but now I have no idea about how to finish it.
I was thinking to add some decoration to the base of the column and the Alighieri coat of arms (as a separated piece) on the column.

Ciao Luca
aspetto con pazienza che finisci di realizzare questo bel busto di Dante
per ora posso dire che il pezzo ha un buon panneggio ed anche la faccia è piuttosto
buona quindi buon lavoro.

MAB ;)

Hi John, it will be my second release, so I think to post soon a more detailed process for this casting.

Maurizio, e' un onore ;) ricevere un complimento da uno come te, lo dico sul serio, grazie.

Luca,
A beautiful sculpt (y) and a superb SbS on casting :)
I use similar casting technique but with less satisfactory results. I think you have more patience than I do ;).
Ciao,
A.

Luca, I like what you have done so far. My only comment is the pedestal base looks too high. While a decorative one looks nice, you do not want the bust to dissappear in it.

PS, Maybe the Pf Staff can take your postings about casting and make an article from it. What do you think Gordy? Guy?~Gary

Thank guys, I appreciate every comment. Gary, thank but I'm not a professional caster, for what I see there are more experienced people in the forum.

Ok, yes Marc I'll paint it as marble for the boxart picture. Arthur, there could be some sort of Zen of casting, I can get a sactisfactory result only after a long meditation..., anyway if you are interested, here is a very good and clear tutorial.

The bust is really near to be finished, this weekend I'll cast it. In the meanwhile, some more shots of the progress.

IMGP3064.jpg

it seems to me more a Napoleonic face rather than a Medieval guy, but I think because I must still add the cap.

Here the head with the corrected volume

and the hand holding up the book. Is the first hand I ever sculpt, so I think I must still refine something

Luca, Your bust is coming along well. I like the drapery effects the bust has. Looking forward to more progress pictures.~Gary

That's looking very nice indeed Luca...I love the drapery and the face...and a very nice looking base to finish him off...I wish you much luck with this one.. (y)

All the best...Roy.

Thank Gary, about drapery my preferred reference is Bernini, there are some of his sculpts which makes me crazy. Take a look at the drapery of the bust of Alessandro VII (1657)

LorenzoBernini-AlessandroVII1657.jpg

or at the dynamism he achieved with that bust of "Ignoto Gentiluomo"

Hey Roy, about luck I'm currently using that

no faults until now... ;)

This is just the sketch for the cap

IMGP3080.jpg

still in the rough, I must add the earflaps and the laurel crown. I would like to make something more 'softer' than the usual one, something like that

now, with the casting...

Luca, Very very nice. I like the larger pedestal now that all of the ornaments have been added to it.~Gary

Awesome work my friend...........my chin will be bruised from hitting the floor. I love every aspect of the bust & base. The base really enhances the bust and provided drama to its story.
