Here are a few (very poor!) photos of my latest work, JMD's Senegalese Trumpeter from WWI. Strangely enough I am most proud of everything else but the figure itself, as I did a little wordworking and made the base myself, and produced the nameplate on my computer.

Here is a closer shot of the figure itself. I am not unhappy with the way he turned out, and really enjoyed making this figure. I would highly recommend this to anyone with an interst in this time period.

And a few more just to give you a variety of views. Made that barbed wire all by my self!!

Base is made from a maple burl with a MDF board bottom. The wife was not impressed with the purchase of the power sanding station, but c'est la guerre! Any and all comments and helpful hints would be welcome.

Excellent work Glen. I like the versions we are seeing of this figure. Your base is exceptional too. Best thing I ever bought was my sander / grinder station. I hook my shop vac right up to it.

Looks good, I like the name plate,Maybe with the photo, try not using the camera flash directly at the piece. Or if the camera flash is your only light source,diffuse the flash with layers of tissue paper or a hankerchief.

Thanks Matt and Jaime for your kind remarks.

Jay, I think the problem was that I took the photos in my basement, as opposed to the kitchen table were I usually do my pics, and where the natural light helps a bit. There was no flash when I took these so it's all the fault of the lighting in the basement.

Guy, the best thing I did was to spend a bit of money on some tools for making bases. I picked up $30 worth of burl wood off of e-bay, and got enough for about 25-30 bases. Can you imagine what one would pay for these commercially? I am sure I have more than paid for the tools with the savings...at least that's what I'm telling the missus. :)

Glen, nice work my friend! This figure is destined to be a classic, I have yet to see a version that didn't turn out really well!

It was more impressive to see yours Jean Paul. The scenic base you made was outstanding and I enjoyed seeing the "field uniform" version! To think I was so pleased with myself for scratchbuilding a piece of barbed wire! I think for sure that is a Golden effort should you decide to make the trip to Girona this summer. Perhaps I will see you there and thanks for commenting.

You will be at Gerona?
I live only 2 hours driving from Gerona !!! Of course I will be there.

It would be nice to meet there.
Go to the JMD stand and ask for me, jM is a good friend.

Thanks for the kind comments Roc. As I said, I was rather pleased with the base so I'm gratified others like it as well.

JP, my family and I are planning our summer holiday around Gerona, so I will definately stop by the JMD table. But I suppose I should leave my wallet with my wife, other wise I may spend all our holiday money at that table! Cheers;

Glenn
