Hello,

Here is my first attempt at painting a big figure (1/16).

The figure is from Tamiya. I have made some ...let say improvements - sleeve engraved, new scarf made of medical tape for textures, some tears etc..

Your critique is welcomed. Thanks.

The impression of cold is very well done; he looks pale and chilly. The field grey and eyes looks very well done.

The helmet seems to sit a bit high on the head however. I like the new scarf a lot, but I recommend to remove some of it where it meets the helmet. Not a big deal however.

Cheers (and welcome at PF!),
Adrian

For a first attempt that is excellent. You have a very steady hand my friend. The face looks very well painted. It looks like you have used browns for the shadows which works well. If you want him to look colder then blues and greens are "cooler" colours and perhaps a touch of red for the nose and cheeks.

However as I said, extremely good painting.
Ta for showing,
Grant

Many thanks for the useful comments!

BTW I am still not satisfied with my skills of blending acrylic paint. So, the face is painted with acrylic for the base and water paint for the final touch.

Therefore the figure (and especially the face) should be covered with something for prevention. But I am still afraid to do that in order not to destroy everything.

Could you suggest what to cover the figure with? .... I have acrylic mat varnish (Vallejo) but it seem to be very diluted. Is it usable over water paint? I am afraid not to wash away the water paint... may be airbrush?

Thanks in advance.

Alexander, I would not add a varnish layer for protection if that action carries the risk of damaging what you want to protect. In other words, why not leave it as is?

What water colours did you use? Do you mean gouache?

Cheers,
Adrian

I should make some tests with Testor Dullcoat...

@Ferris - I don't know what is the exact difference between gouache and water paint but there is no such word on the product label. Seems it is an ordinary water paint in small tubes (made in China I guess, but labeled as "professional" :) ).

I may leave it as it is but I am afraid a bit of humidity.. It is not "La Gioconda" of course but... ;)

Alexander,

Gouache is an opaque water color, and does NOT dry to a durable film but remains water soluble. It obviously requires a protective clear coat to be sprayed on to fix it permanently. Egg tempera is another paint in this category that remains relatively water soluble after drying

Acrylic paint has a carrier+pigment that dries to a waterproof plastic film. Although I recommend sealing it with a product such as aerosol DULLCOAT as well, it is not strictly required.
