I finally completed the goblin scene, i had a lot of fun and got to try out a bunch of different modeling techniques. I think I settled on the display method for all the scenes I have in my head. I will post a separate thread, for those interested in the box and light used. There are probably a few things I could come back to, but I'm eager to start something different.

The overall scene:

My best attempts at dramatic shots...(I need a lot of brushing up on my photography skills)

And finally, some pictures of the figure itself:

This was really the my first attempt at something like this. Thanks to all for the tips and encouragement. As always, I welcome any and all comments.

Hi Larry, to say this is your first project I think you've really thrown yourself in at the deep end and not been afraid to go for something ambitious. So definite kudos for that! As I said in your original thread, I really like the concept you came up with.

Looking at the finished article, one thing that strikes me is that there seems to be a lot of empty space, both on the base and above it. I think a smaller base and light box would have tightened things up a lot more and improved things on that score. As it stands, I feel it needs more going on across the base to add interest, rather than just a load of bare rock & ground. More vegetation, another animal or two, discarded bones .... that kind of thing.

Looking forward to seeing what else you have up your sleeve!

Steve,

Thank you for your feedback and experience.

I agree, I had originally planed a few more detail items, like a well, maybe something to show he lives there. I like your ideas about the bones and such...I was going to attach a dragged victim to the chain in the back, but thought the scene maybe too macabre already. BTW, that torch looks horribly out of scale to me now...boy the camera is a harsh mistress! I see all the parts of the painting that I said I was coming back to but forgot before I declared it done. Oh well, maybe a new section called "Almost completed but not WIP right now" is in order for Planet Figure. ;)
As to the height, I was thinking of adding photos of the night sky to the back and sides...I wanted the illusion of space there, maybe it will make the mountain look bigger. But yes, composition wise, there is not enough detail to catch the eye. I will come back to it, but I feel like I've been staring at this ugly goblin too long and need to move on for a spell.

Good idea Larry. Move onto something else and maybe return to it later with a fresh pair of eyes and renewed enthusiasm. I like the idea of the night sky.
