Gotthold Ephraim Lessing

Greetings all:

After over a year of offering my advice (both solicited and not) my friend finally suggested I just "shut up and paint something." So, here it is, my very first attempt at painting a miniature...ever.

The figure is Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, a 70mm figure from Peipp Miniaturen (Germany). Comments and suggestions for improvement are more than welcomed. Thank you for looking.

good start.
Very nice figure to.
I would recommend that you paint some highlights. The red looks just dark red with shadows. It is easily to correct that.
Maybe some shading on the face too.

Thank you for the feedback. One thing that has become extremely clear is that I need to get an SLR camera if we are going to do super close photography. To the naked eye, the highlights and shading are very obvious, but despite my best efforts, the photographs are not representational. But my parter says I should be a bit more extreme also. Here's one more shot.

Welcome to the Planet and to Figure painting! Over all, I think you're definitely headed in the right direction. Some more subtle shading of the shadows, particularly around the buttons might help. Keep it up, you'll get a better feeel fro it with every new figure!

Eyes are very difficult followed by skintones and they are which makes the figure
You have made a good start so build on that for your next figure

Your first figure is much better than my first figure.
My advice to you is to practice, and when in doubt ask lots of questions.

After trying my first figure I have a completely new appreciation for the level of skill and amazing patience demonstrated by so many here.
