hello, I,m sorry for my English....
I write from Italy.
I like military veicles, but sometime I like paint figures even if I'm very unexpert :giggle:
I'm working at diorama in 1:35 scale inspired to the picture I have posted about the war in Iraq in 2004 during battle of Husaybah near Ramadi where fighted 1st Marines Division. As you can see in the pictures of my WIP, I 'm assembling a M1046 Tamiya .
Now, I have to start to paint figures and I need help for US Marines MARPAT uniform. Someone of you have just paint MARPAT uniform in 1:35? I nerver paint figures with camouflage pattern!
Can you give me a suggestion?
I'm posting the kit of my 3 resin figures.

thank you for your kind attention

bye bye

Paolo

Hi Paolo.
Welcome to the planet, hope you like what you see. Your vehicle is off to a fine start.

Although I've never painted Digi cam the basic principal is the same with a camouflage uniform.

In your minds eye break the pattern down into individual colours. Start painting the figures uniform all over with the lightest of these colours for example sand.

Then look for the next lightest colour and start applying the pattern. This is where it starts to get a bit harder as you are not painting all over but trying to replicate the pattern.

This sequence is repeated through all the colours untill the pattern is complete.

Keep your paints thin or they will look like blobs on top of each other.

Airborne Minitures recently showed US Navy seals he produces and did a blog on painting MARPAT

I believe it was some of the best digicam painting I've seen. Look him up.

Don't forget just like your vehicle, the marines uniform would be dusty, dirty and sweaty so a degree of weathering will be in order.

Hope this helps in some way & good luck with your project.

Peter.

Working in such a small scale for the required camouflage, I used small pieces of sponge dabbed in the relative colour and built up layers on the base colour - I used vallejo colours and started with Iraqi sand with a drop of dark sand to give a lowlight - then with thinned colours built up layers with small pieces of close sponge material - the type used by some manufacturers to pack their figures in. With tweezers holding the sponge then dab on the colour - you will find some spots heavy some spots light - this adds to the contrasts. Also use different pieces of sponge to give various shapes across the various areas that require comouflage.

Hope this helps

In this photo we can see US Marines fighting in Iraq in 2004 near a Humvee. They was dressing MARPAT and Modular Tactical Vest.
In my opinion the color of the vest is buff. A light green camel back is on shoulders of one of them. What do you think about this colors?

Personally I would use buff as the base and add highlights and low lights - then you cover all bases!

Same with the camel back.

The Modular Tactical Vest pictured, came out around 2008. The Marines pictured above are wearing the older Interceptor Body Armor.
