Some people prefer giving vouchers as if they give cash they know it will most probably get spent on the usual living expenses rather than a gift, ie bills, food, fuel or up the pub, with a voucher they at least know that it will be spent on something the person is interested in.

I would much prefer vouchers as I have always had a strict rule for myself at Christmas, no clothes :)

I guess you're right. With vouchers you can make sure the money will be spent on something fun.
I'm just grumpy about them because I've found an expired one in my treasure drawer more than once. ]-/

In Canada (at least in Ontario) it is against the law to put an expiry date on a gift certificate or even to have it depreciate over time. Intelligent law in my opinion given someone has essentially traded cash for it. Given the retailer has use of your cash while the certificate or voucher remains uncashed, they actually have a financial benefit....and then there are the ones that get lost and which are never cashed. It came in a few years ago to combat significant retailer abuse in this area.

Time to fess up. It wasn't me buying the vouchers, but my wife as a Xmas present for me as she never knows what figure to get me. Due to the postage charges she dropped the idea and bought me a jumper instead.[/quote]

simple. Say I'd like that..... that and that, oh and that, that, that, that too.:)

Postage costs have gone crazy. Yesterday I tried to buy various items from verlinden off ebay, cost of items $110, cost of postage $90. Order cancelled

That's bonkers ... and I don't blame you!
