How much do you spend on kits a month?

(Peeking over shoulder to make sure my lovely wife is not watching me type... :) )

I am new to the hobby - five months or so - so the "start up" costs were probably about $1,500 USD.

Now that I have a complete workbench established, I would say I spend about $100 a month.

I just returned from my very FIRST fine scale model show here in MN, and I dropped about $100 there. My impulse buys are slowing a bit. However, I had to have some of those phenomenal photo-etched leaves from Plus that were posted last week (for instance!)

Hey, it's cheaper than moto cross  \o/

It depends - if my wife is reading this - NEARLY Nothing - in reality an average of £50 every month rising to £100's when at Euro Militaire or those must have new releases appear.

I guess I average about 150 to 200 each month. Since being retired now, I have alot more time to paint and therefore buy more figures. At a show I usually go beyond this figure for that month and stock up on things like bases and books that I can't get easily durring the year. I get 3 magazines and I guess I am old school as I like the actual magazine to look at away from the computer while in the recliner.

I have a very supportive wife who has never complained about my purchases as long as I pay my share of the household expenses.

Hi all!

Being a poor student like Ross,I don't spend much every month for modeling.I think it depends on the amount of new releases,so the possibility to find something you really like is bigger.Furthermore,I paint too slow,so I have about 20 or more figures waiting to be painted,so I try to control myself and not buy more, except I find something that cannot wait too much ;).

It's hard for me to say how much I spend every month, but it's about 300-400 Euros per year. For example, the last two months I've spended about 500 Euros or more for figures and equipment, but I hadn't bought not a single thing for 7 months and I don't plan to buy something more for the next 3 months.250 Euros or more of this was spended for equipment(brushes, glues, paints, epoxy clay etc.)

***Note for those who are new to this "sport":

I remember that, when I started painting Historical Miniatures, this money sounded a lot(and it IS a lot indeed...)and I wanted to quit before I even start. But the truth is that using this kind of equipment properly, carefuly and economicaly, your materials may last for more than two years in average. For example, brushes may last for 5-8 months,paints(acrylics...) for 3-5 years etc.So don't be afraid, just be sure you save some money to start with complete equipment and best quality materials(otherwise, believe me,it may cost much more!!!)and use it carefuly.

As for the figures, try to finish with a figure before you start painting a new one and wait till you find what you really like!Every 3 months there are almost 20 new releases in general, and most companies have a huge catalogue with very beatiful pieces,so you may paint what you really want, than something it just impesses you...

Hello.

As to my budget, I must confess I've exploded it since September. Where I spent around 80 euros max a month, I now spend between 200 and 400 euros a month, and I just make stacks, what a pity. In fact, I'm so "workoverloaded" that I keep the stress out by buying the kits that please me most, that will surely be painted in a few years alas. Anyway, I have to cease if I am to plan my travel to Kyklades this summer.

I dunno... $50 or so a month. Fluctuates because I am such a slow painter...

Just spent ~$100 on 15 or 20 early HM issues on ebay
I get mags when I see something that interests me. Like Guy, I enjoy kicking back with the mags.

My wife is pretty considerate, too. I have here pretty much convinced her that this is almost art. I always ask her opinion on colors and patterns. Also, alot easier to hide a figgie rather than try and explain that new DML Tiger box in the mail... :)
