Thanks badger. I find that the quick sketching to map out the high lights and shadows definitely helps to figure out exactly where you want things to go. Hopefully it helps...

Here guys - just a quick update, I finally found some time to knock out the turban. I think turbans are a lot of fun to paint, they are pretty interesting volume-wise with a ton of deep folds and swirls, etc...

Next up is his shirt and sash (with some embroidery and a tiny bit of freehand as well...)

The freehand pattern was taken from the box art; I thought it was a little unusual looking so I just duplicated it.
