This is my favourite purchase from this years Euro and it's leapfrogged by other projects on the workbench. Assembly was an absolute breeze as the casting is spot-on so it was ready for paint pretty quick. I'm painting up from black as usual with an airbrushed undercoat of Jo Sonja Carbon Black. This time I've used the airbrush to pre-highlight the face giving it a directional spray of a Jo Sonja mixed mid flesh tone. Same for the coat and flag, again Jo Sonja sprayed directionally through the airbrush. There is a bit more info about the colours used on my blog.

Here is the face after about two hours brushwork. Still more to be done but it's getting there.

Thanks for looking

Superb Alex, this is the very first of these I have seen painted :))
This is going to look great, makes me want to get the brushes out.
Fantastic mate, cannot wait for more
Best wishes

Beautiful Start!! I have plans to paint one of these as it is one of the best bust sculpts I have seen in some time ( and I don't usually do Napoleonics these days). It has that certain something that sets it apart from other kits. I will follow your progress with great anticipation and interest.

Great start Alex,I love all the various flesh shades you have used to bring out the aged look in him ,will be following with interest, I picked this up from graham at euro also,it's a truly great sculpt from Carl and captures the emotion superbly of that fateful day, congratulations :)

That’s a fantastic bit of painting. My only reservation is that the coloured part of the eyes are, perhaps, a smidgin small. It might be that they’d benefit from the addition of a limbus – the dark outer ring of the iris. This image illustrates the point:

Whatever you decide, Alex, I think this is going to be a stunning figure.

Very nice start Alex. I like the way you painted the flesh tones, great choice of colours to reproduce an old guard veteran.

Wow what a lot of positive comments, thank you guys:happy:

Great work with this face Alex, it seems that he has a lot of work with those wrinkles and facial features, I think is superbly solved.
In my opinion, and this is now loop the loop, I see the a slighty assimetry between the two iris of the eyes.

Jeff and Eduardo, thanks for your feedback about the eyes, I must admit I didn't really pay them enough attention during the painting session, I wasn't even planning on doing much more than to rough-in a few highlights on the flesh as it was late at night, and forgot that I always paint the eyes in first, but I got carried away as I was enjoying painting the flesh so much and neglected the eyes a little. Looking at the photos now what you have pointed out is clear to me, so I will address this when I get the brushes out again.

Alex.
