Not only do I get my inspiration from film, but from reading as well. I just finished reading "Band of Brothers" for the umpteenth time, and now I find myself motivated to revisit some projects I had promsed some WWII veterans - Sgt. Floyd Talbert, SSgt. Wild Bill Guarnere, and T5 Eugene "Doc" Roe. As far as reading goes, I recently finished "It never snows in Septbember," which chronicles the battle of Arnhem from the German perspective, and now I find myself motivated to do some figures of the 9th. and 10th. SS Panzers.
Overall, I believe that each of us have one general historical era that we'll always gravitate towards and will rarely stray far from - at least in thought. Even though we'll very likely "stray" from our era of choice, we'll always fall back to that time in history that originally got us into the hobby. As for myself, this era will always be WWII - gee, what a surprise! - if simply for the reason that my grandfather jumped into North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Holland, and did a "tailgate jump" at St. Vith with the 82nd. Airborne Division in World War II (his name was SSgt. Ruben Romero, from National City, CA).
In conclusion, I firmly believe that our inspiration will always come from some source higher than whatever today's media offers us.
