Hi everyone

Been digging in the GA a bit , and decided to carry one with this great bust from Dolman ....

Ivan Kozhedub ......a top pilot from Russia shooting down over 60 enemy planes , being awarded 3 HSU , 1 Order of Lenin , 3 Order of Red Banner and numerous campaign medals , surviving the war he passed away in 1991 .

He was married to Veronika , with 2 children Nikita and Natasha

I’ve received a massive amount of advice from PF member akaryu...appreciate your assistance Pierre

This is the unpainted , unchanged piece as you’d receive from Dolman

Currently he is primed and basecoated ....and I added a shirt top under the uniform collar

I am looking at additional medals circled red in these pics .....thinking of adding if I can get correct info from Pierre

All well and good Kev, it'll make a great bust, you should add the fag as well (cigarette for American viewers). Only thing is are you sure that isn't Leonardo Di Caprio? Seriously though, loads of medals it's got Kev written all over it.

Cheers Simon

Nice sculpt and a few medals, this will be good.

Hopefully it will be so !

Sorry mate no fag but it’s tempting .....not Leo , 8 medals and badges on original ....see below for update

It wouldn't be a bust unless there were medals, very nice and I'm sure you will work your magic.

Going to enjoy this ....the sculpts great

UPDATE

Pierre has got back with the info on medals in red on this picture

Badge above pocket ......Order of Alexander Nevski awarded 31 July 1945

The small flag is not positively ID atm, could be Peoples Deputy

The medals below the set of 4 are from L-R

Victory over Germany/Capture of Berlin/Liberation of Warsaw (all awarded 1945)

Single star as a major , two stars is podpolkovnik (lieutenant-colonel), three stars polkovnik (full colonel). In the photos our hero is wearing full dress jacket, on the bust he is in service dress jacket 1943 pattern...

The photo shows Kozhedub as a major, sometime between the end of WW2 and 1 March 1951, when he was promoted to Lieutenant-colonel.
Flag-shaped insignia were popular in the Soviet Union, but mostly party or trade union related.

....thanks again to Pierre

In the picture he wears 4 Order of Red Banner , on bust there are 3 ....I have no intention of removing all cast on ones to add ...just not enough room !

Stay tuned

Hi Kevin,
Nice bust you have on the go. I had fun with mine.
The face is superb. The alternate head (without hat) that it comes with, looks a bit like Matt Damon.
Your date of Jan 1945 for the Nevski award is incorrect. It was April 1945.
You'll find all his awards and dates when awarded in the following link:-
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Kozhedub
Just scroll down to very nearly the bottom for the 'Awards and 'Honours'.
Enjoy the painting.

Cheers,
Andrew

I'd love to know from where I dreamed up April 1945 (???).
Guess it's time to make an appointment at Specsavers.

Andrew

Kevin, you continue to prove that you don't mess around when it comes to them be medaled busts! :D

Joe

Thanks Joe possibly a bit OCD ! ...but we all like accuracy

Whilst speaking to Pierre I have learnt so much ......he again has come up with details on the small flag by the upper ribbons

Cheers Guys , I’m reworking the one above the pocket was far too thick ...just the image to add , then put the ribbons all on , details actual medals ....

....and away we go .....basecoating the Scots Guards bust whilst waiting for the putty to fully dry on this one

Happy Benchtime everyone
