Hi folks,

I wonder if I am the only moved by the interesting characters in the new Avatar movie. It would be great if some of us can team up and sculpt couple figures together so that we can combine for some interesting diorama.

What would yo think?

I was definately fired up after seeing the movie. I know it will only be a matter of time before some figures start showing up. While I like the Navi and the Avatars, my main interest is definately around some of the animals. That to me showed a whole new level of thought and design process for a fauna that looked like it evolved on that planet/moon.

As an aside, just remember that when you sculpt your Navi, the Navi have 4 fingers and toes, the Avatars have five.

John Rosengrant has already released a model of the A.R.M. suit ($1200) that looks absolutely fantastic. There is also a book due out on the Art of Avatar, that will have production stills, concept sketches, etc. That should help alot.

Thanks guys,

Yeah, I guess I am so excited after the movie that I was impatient when I post. Hahaha, seriously, it will be helpful to have a copy of the book that they will release, that is the great reference source.

However, one things I always wonder, if we are sculpting figures based on a film, is there a violation in copy right stuff?

Commercially yes. There is a copyright/licensing issue. For personal use...no. Although if you were to gain some sort of financial gain as a result of your work, then yes there may be an issue. But pursuit and enforcement are arbitrary in cases like that and unless you were nailing in some major payola I wouldn't worry about it.

There's a certain European company that has produced quite a few figures based on specific characters and likenesses, so I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually release a figure or two of Avatar subjects.
