What, they’re going to do it again ?

Oh no they’re not !

Oh YES they are !

So; FigureWorld; same place, same time of year, same people running it.

And yes, yet again it’s going to be brilliant…….Just like it was in previous years !

We’re already beginning to organise this, and just so you can pencil the date into your diary, it’s going to be on Saturday the 19th of July 2014 at Oundle School, Oundle, Near Peterborough. PE8 4GH.

Times for the show will be the same as last year – 9:30am until 16:30pm.

And just like last year there’s a good amount of free parking. There will be a stall with refreshments, lots of traders and enough displays of model figures to please even the most jaded modeller. Yet again there’s no competition to worry about and simply loads of figure modellers in attendance to chat about your favourite hobby with.

Looking forward to it. My third year and its always a pleasure.

As usual, I'll use the show to release a couple of figures:

• TW54023 – Corporal, Royal Irish Rifles, Loos 1915 (1/32 figure)
• TW54024 – Private, 8th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers, Gallipoli 1915 (1/32 figure)
• TW10B02 – Captain, 2nd Bn South Wales Borders, Tsingtao 1914 (1/10 scale bust)

So, they will be available on the day at Figureworld, with all the other figures from the range

The Displays.

Probably the core of the show is it’s display of models.

Certainly through the last four years this is where conversations between people have begun, friendships have been made and enthusiasm, not to mention the exchange of ideas has all taken place.

The fundamental idea behind FigureWorld was always to bring figure modellers together, to build a relaxed atmosphere and get them talking; and the displays of models – most of them in a finished state, but there are some that are works in progress – encourages this to happen.

It isn’t about being the best – best painter, best sculptor, best display even. Because there is no competition. This is why the beginner can be confident in bringing his or her models along and putting them out on the display area. There is no judgment to be made, simply a case of showing what you can do, and to bounce ideas and mine for techniques of those around you.

Granted there are some of the very best figure sculptors and painters in the country displaying at FigureWorld too, and looking at what they’re producing is going to make you want to get right back to the workbench pretty quickly – if previous years displays are anything to go by.

So yes, this would be Reason #3 for coming along to FigureWorld 2014 – the displays of figure models – no competition, no pressure; just you and a lot of other people and loads of models !

Reason # 4​

The Social Side.

Whilst the displays and trade presence form an important part of the show during the day, it’s also the social side of things that makes FigureWorld what it is.

We’re a solitary hobby in the main, and it’s club meetings and shows that tend to bring us together. We’d like to think that FigureWorld helps promote people meeting up, talking and “having a laugh”, not just whilst at the show itself, but also during the evening on the Friday and Saturday night.

The Ship Inn – just down the road from FigureWorld’s venue – is the place that people seem to gravitate to in the evenings and for us the organisers, it’s where we get to kick back after the show and relax a bit.

During previous shows there’s been in excess of 200 sculptors and painters attending the show, all easy-going folk who share the same hobby as you.

During the evening some of these have chosen to stay over and carry on the conversations and joking that’s gone on through the day.

Hobbies are the things we do for fun. In this case, not just the making and painting of figures, but also socialising bringing people together.

So there’s “Reason #4” for coming along to Figureworld 2014 - meeting up, having a laugh and getting to know each other

The way this show is growing in popularity, it s going to need a bigger venue in a few years, its that good a show.
Everyone goes home feeling great, albeit with a lighter wallet.
