Having just finished my own, scratch built, 180mm figure I have decided to have a go at a similar figure from Le Cimier in the hope that working on it will help me improve my own sculpting technique.
The Le Cimier figure was created by Nick Dransfield, a well-respected sculptor, and the resin castings (with some white-metal accoutrements) seem clean and crisp. The downside is the price – 90 euros – which, with the current poor rate of exchange against the UK pound, makes it very expensive indeed.
The kit does not come with any instructions and there is only one colour photograph of the figure finished in the colours of the 7th Hussars however I suppose it is safe to assume that anyone prepared to pay this much for the kit will be experienced and will know how to assemble it. He (or she) is also likely to have plenty of colour references.
The overall height of the Le Cimier figure is exactly the same as my own but the proportions are distinctly different. I always felt that the legs were too short on my figure and this is confirmed by comparing it to the Le Cimier one. Also I have set the legs too far apart giving mine a bandy-legged appearance [appropriate for a cavalry regiment perhaps :)].
Most striking was the size of the head: the Le Cimier one seemed tiny compared to the size of the torso but I have to admit that once the shako is fitted it all seems in proportion.
I’m posting a few pictures here and will try to post more as the figure progresses. So far I’ve only worked on the head as it seemed desirable to paint this before attaching it to the torso.
Incidentally, I think Tim Harris painted this figure in the colours of the 7th Hussars a couple of years ago.

Love your flesh tones Trevor. . .

You've got a very good start. And looking at the sharply defined eyes, it is
hard for me to believe this is as small a head as 1:16th 120mm. But you say
it is so that indicates you really have a steady hand.

I wanted to comment particularly about the way you handle the shadow areas
of the features of the face, particulary the eye socket and the shadow area
of the nose. I haven't seen others do that rather blue cast to the shadow
areas on this site before, altho I'm new here, I'll admit. I really
think this works so well with your Trooper's face. And I'm thinking
about giving that approach when painting the face, a try.

Well done, and I'm eager to see more,

Nice painting Trevor !! I really like the difference in textures on the shako, I can clearly see where you painted to represent felt and where it's leather - well done, keep going !

Thanks for your comments. If you look again you'll see that my figure is actually 180mm not 120 (i.e. about 1:10 scale). Fortunately I do still have a fairly steady hand despite large intakes of Stella Artois over the years ;)

Nice work Trevor.
I'm not a fan of the purple/blue-ish shade of the face. In my opinion you can tone down the white of the eyes a little bit more.
But you are on the right track.

Marc

Many thanks for your comments, Marc. Actually my photo made the shading look bluer than it actually is. Nevertheless, I take you point - also about the eyes which I may tone down with a glaze.
I like to use alkyd colours, which handle like oils but dry overnight. My mix for flesh tones is Titanium White and Yellow Ochre with a touch of Scarlet and Burnt Umber. For the shading I tried adding Prussian Blue to this mix but it came out too blue. Then I tried Payne's Gray but that didn't work either so eventually I settled for a mix of Burnt Umber and Ultramarine.

I can't believe that it is 7 years since I last posted here!
Work on my 180mm hussar figure was interrupted by a lengthy family visit to the USA and since my return the figure has been standing in my workroom looking at me accusingly. At last I have been able to get my motivation going again and have restarted work on the figure. I'm currently working on the pelisse and should then be ready to begin some basic assembly of the parts.
I'll try to post some pictures when the project is a bit more advanced.

Great start Trevor. Very nice painting. Looking forward to seeing more. What regiment did you choose. I have always favored the 9th or the 5th myself.

Gradually getting back into the swing of things and making progress with this long-abandoned figure.
It would seem that Le Cimier have gone out of business, or changed hands, and the 180mm figures are no longer available so any future figures will have to be scratch-built, rather a daunting prospect as I am now in my 79th year!
