Everyone,

I hope some of you have been interested in the robot/mech warrior figures. I am planning to make gift for my friends son. He is so much into sci-fi. We both think that would be a nice idea to paint him something like that. The size of the figure would have to be from 80mm to 200mm.

Any ideas or links?

Thanks all.

Wouldn't it be better to buy a model kit like a Gundam kit. Like the 1/144th Grimoire.

However, if he's not averse to building, I recommend a Maschinen Krieger kit. If you're not familiar with them, have a look at http://www.maschinenkrueger.com/forum/. Most of the subjects are armored fighting suits, in 1/20 scale. They are relatively easy to build but have tremendous opportunity for scratching, kitbashing, or otherwise detailing. You can get new kits (re-releases) from HobbyLink Japan, but also get older and out-of-production kits on eBay, for good prices, if you're patient. Some kits have an additional figure.

Brickworks makes resin figures to go with MaK kits, and there is a garage kit industry to produce other figures, but they're limited-run and a little more expensive.

Prost!

E2046 has long since left behind the 're-casters' tag. They have licensing agreements with a large range of non original pieces, and a big range of their own original pieces.

So all of the examples of figures made for Maschinen Krieger by Brickworks, like this one: http://www.e2046.com/product/15855 are all produced under license to Brickworks or the other originators? I'm skeptical, given the discussions in the MaK forum and in the Kow Yokoyama Facebook group, which include Kow himself, that mention how many pirated items are available from e2046. Even the figure I've linked, looks suspiciously like a pirate copy, given that its selling price is less than one-quarter of Brickworks' retail price, and also, I think it's currently not in production.

You're correct, e2046 does have its own licensed items, its own lines of kits, but I don't think that any of the items they've flagged as MaK is original and licensed.

Prost!

With respect Brad, your knowledge of the given subject matter, is greater than mine. All I would say, is that given the size E2046 has grown too, and their current level of exposure in the modelling media, they would be very blasé to open themselves up to any kind of 'illegal' practice in todays market. As a matter of interest, this question was raised on the forums there some time back, they responded by saying that they had an agreement to cast out of production pieces only.
Who do we believe. Given the recent debacle over re-casters on here, I will refrain from mentioning them again in deference to your arguments against them. But I will, as I have done before, continue to buy their own original pieces.

Respect

Ron
