I love a good historical Roman miniature. I also love a good historical-ish Roman miniature. I also, also love the movie Gladiator, so this figure was definitely going to be in my collection.

This was also one of my first attempts at using oil paint. I used it for the skin tones, and it didn't turn out entirely like I wanted it to. In particular, I could not for the life of me get the eyes right. I eventually just called it done anyway and decided it was a learning experience.

Still, even if the eyes didn't turn out, I was pretty happy with the rest.

Thanks! The soundtrack is definitely awesome as well. I listened to it a lot while I was painting this guy.

As for the competition, I have been thinking of entering a piece. I was wondering how winners are chosen though. Is it a vote from the members here?

Ref comp winners are chosen by members voting by "liking" as many entries as they wish ....once the entry date has gone voting is open for a further month then I will announce winners
