Hey that's looking good Steve. Once your red has dried you can straighten the lines up on the shield with burnt umber or similar. It's quite good as it works well with yellow and red.
My red is still a bit tacky this morning so if the armour is dry I might do some more to that... stay posted.

Whatever way you choose Steve, I think the object of this little exercise is really in the placement of shade and light, use which colours you feel happiest with.
How do you think it's looking now, are you fairly pleased with it so far?

That's okay Steve, I would say you're giving it and good go and it's not bad at all. We'll plough on to the end and see how it looks then.

Armour shadow mix with slightly more Lamp Black added.


and blended with a soft dry brush.



Armour highlight added, Titanium White straight from the tube.


and blended.

I've now started shading the red of the surcoat and shield with Cadmium Red + Viridian. This will be left to dry and then applied again to build up the depth.

First highlights on the red with Cadmium Orange.

Shading the yellow on the shield. Cadmium Yellow + Dioxazine Purple.



Blended in with a soft dry brush.

Highlight the yellow with Titanium White.


Again blended with a soft dry brush.

The above steps repeated and a further highlight added to the surcoat, Cadmium Orange + White. I know highlighting red with white or nearly white gives a pink colour and is usually to be avoided but I wanted to achieve quite a high contrast and rules are there to be broken.

Finished!
The leather belts and straps have been painted with brown tones and highlighted with Naples Yellow.
Most of the shaded and highlighted areas have been gone over again to reinforce them and to give an impression of depth.
