It doesnt really matter to me where it is...leeds ...oundle ...folkestone i can get to it.

I know a lot of the trade drive over from europe thats why folkestone is good...its easier for them and for modellers from belgium...france ...germany etc.

Take darlington for instance...great figure show...well attended...not many people from the south come up even when bill horan is the guest !!!! Will they come UP north...remains to be seen.

I just want whats best on an international level...folkestone may not be it ...birmingham is central but not mentioned..easy transport links easy for both north south east and west.

There are lots of options but whoever takes the plunge also takes the risk !!!

If it's to be UK-centric, I can't think of anywhere better than Leeds.

If it's to be Euro-centric, Canterbury gets my vote: Close enough to Dover for the cross-channel crowd, still in the traditional "EuroMilitaire" county of Kent to maintain that association ..... but not Folkestone, so not saddled with that baggage.

But I will go with the flow and support it wherever it ends up (assuming it gets off the ground).

One thing to consider that might have impact on the continental traders are Brexit. I dont think it will have much impact but additional paper work might?

I would say a good show works in symbios among traders, visitors,clubs, exhibitors, judging etc. If somethings starts falling short its gonna affect all other areas.

Janne, there are already moves afoot to scupper Brexit altogether and I am increasingly sceptical that it will ever happen (but that's for a different thread).

However, assuming it does, we won't know what additional paperwork there'll be (if any) until the final Brexit terms have been negotiated. So it might be a factor, or it might not.

Oh no ! I don't trust you ! Last time I was in Leeds you pulled me into a house of ill repute called The Fucking Ducks ! ... or wait, was it that pub The Duck and Drake ?

Just another idea if ever you & others would decide to organize a show in Leeds : sit together and put some money on the table to commision a decent sculptor for a 1/16 scale figure of Lord Cardigan (I believe there's a connection with the City of Leeds) or the Black Prince (the statue !! first thing you notice when in the centre !), have it painted up properly by a decent painter and take pretty pics of it and put it on your show poster and flyers (people are attracted and buy when they see pretty pics, it's true !) ; have a bunch of kits cast and sell them for £40 a "limited edition Leeds Show only" - profits would contribute to paying the bill for renting the venue.

Aww Johan and I thought you loved the Duck such wonderful people in their LOL, their is always a pint waiting for you their my friend.

Yes it's a great stature of the prince just outside the station, it looks like we will have to wait and see what happens over the next few weeks. I've just had an email from the leas with the prices. they said they are very sad that the show has been cancelled and that they were shocked at the decision but understand.

So we have the price for both venues now, the armouries is a little bit cheaper but again this will have to be looked at if we can ever agree on where and when.

I am puzzled ... why do you think us frogs and Poirots from the continent would only want to come to the south of the UK ?

Allow me to clarify something important that may be of interest to you :

- There is no more Oostende - Dover ferry connection. C'est fini mon ami.
- I'm not going to take a boat in Rotterdam ; Rotterdam is vast, and I don't know my way around there.
- I would hate to go by Calais, with all these camps with refugees around there
- The tunnel gets me, a poor drifter who walks with a backpack , only as far as a hell hole in the middle of nowhere, where I was treated like a criminal suspect because of my handsome looks (?) by your Police last time I went to Euro Mil, and from where I must take a taxi for £50 to get anywhere to a decent place.

Next time I have to go to the UK , I WOULD PREFER FLYING, and I don't care if it's to the north or south : if possible also to a tourist-friendly place. I heard Glasgow has much improved over the last twenty years, maybe Leeds also.

This is how I see things from a continental perspective.

Stuart, Wake up and smell the coffee!!! Overseas Traders only wanted to come once a year to a UK show......and then, that show was Euro. Now they'll consider any show in the UK. Leeds Armouries is a Tested and Proven Venue, attended by at least 2 major European Traders, in the teeth of threats from Euro Militaire. If you can't get together as a Trader's collective, then there's not a lot of hope for another 2 day show here. European shows are streets away from the last Militaire, and, in the end ANY show is to your benefit. What do we have to do? Bang your collective heads together? Ray

Hi Guys,

I think the UK needs a premier show, Euro Militaire was that show.
To resurrect a fashionable version of Euro Militaire will require some deep and progressive thinking.

Speaking as a Brummie I would it at the NEC, it has an airport which accomodares flight from every corner of the globe. It has a direct rail link to London. Almost all motorways links lead to Birmingham.
It even has it own hotel that could quite easily accomidate all the Euro visitors under one roof.

But unfortunately its just not practical, for the same reason anywhere north of Canterbury is not practical.
Its not the vistors who can, and would fly in directly.
Its the traders they have to drive.
If you want this to be a truly European show, it has to be close to Dover, Ashford etc.
For example: it would take Pegaso a 20 hour drive to get from Siena to Leeds.
Frank Miniatures drives for 6 + hours to get to Folkestone.

So for me its something that needs to be considered. Because a truly European event requires European manufacturers. In fact I'd say it critical.

Just my penith guys, for what its worth.

If we have to go for instance to Leeds it is a two or three days trip. It's around 700 km from my home. That's my maximum in the holidays to.
I believe alot of the people from the mainland are not going to Leeds.
If we do it by aeroplane it is always a two hours drive to the nearest airport where planes are who fly to Leeds.
We just have a window for check in off two hours, so we are allready four hours on the trip and are nowhere.
For the guys of the mainland you should think twice before you go to Leeds.
And I speak only for the Dutch and the Belgiums (I think)

I was told recently that Glasgow is very nice indeed ; it must have changed alot.
In 1992 when I got of the train, first person that I met wanted my wallet ; I only realised that when my friends from Yorkshire told me. But at the time I had not understood a word of what that guy said, and had given him a very friendly reply and had walked on ... he must have been so baffled that he forgot to kill and rob me.

When I lived in southern Germany I used to drive to Euro and it was about 9 hours to Calais. By the time I'd done the ferry crossing, it was about 12 hours "door to door". I'd make a long weekend of it, stopping off in the Ardennes for a couple of nights on the way back. My point being that as a punter I wouldn't have bothered driving to a UK show anywhere else but in Kent (maybe east Sussex at a push). Nor would I have flown into London or anywhere else and farted around with trains, taxis, hire cars or whatever - if for no other reason than I invariably left Folkestone with a fair amount of "loot" from the show, so just tossing it all in the boot and driving 15 minutes down to the docks at Dover made life much easier in that respect.

If my experience is typical for punters based on the continent, it really has to be held down that neck of the woods if you want to attract them in any significant numbers (and +1 to Carl's very good point about continental traders also). Otherwise it's just going to finish up as another UK show. Which of course is fine if that's the object of the exercise. But somehow I reckon it's not.

Personally if I was in your (British) shoes I'd play safe and go for a major British show, somewhere in an attractive city with an airport nearby, good hotel accomodations, etc.
Then you can be sure of British traders and "punters" (what a word) and possibly continental "punters". Maybe it would be more difficult for European traders , that is true.

Now, about a "european" event , with British and continental traders and "punters" (haha !) .... I don't think the demise of Euro Militaire is a secret only known in Britain : I mean, in the meantime French, Italian, and Spanish traders and clubs must have heard the new also. I would not be surprised if they seize their chance and a "new EURO Militaire" would/will be held in Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, or somewhere in Northern Italy next year ... they certainly have the experience and the facilities ...

Yes obviously sad/bad news to hear that Euromilitaire 2016 will be the last one organised by My Time Media & I fully understand their reasons behind it.

Basing it on the same as MY Time Media, the cost of hiring the venue for the Friday,Saturday,Sunday would be £6500.00 (Plus Vat).with a deposit of 10%.

Table hire is £5.00 per table.

The only clear weekend we currently have is September 15th/16th/17th.

Yes you would need to take out insurance to cover the weekend.

Catering, this would all depend on what you are looking to do, would you want it the same as we do for Euromilitaire?
