I met three lads, one from each service, on a Ray Mears bushcraft course in Kent.
All nco's. Smashing guys.
The Green Jackets colour sergeant was from Brum, and we were discussing Islamophobia off the back of 9/11 (it was 2004). He'd been to Bosnia and was there during the "big stick" operations to make the Serbs pack it in.
A very sobering conversation. And someone I was glad to have met.

Sorry to have taken so long to respond, I can imagine how your conversation with the CSgt went and it led me down a dark.path.

So a Ray Mears Bush craft course, sounds like fun, grim but fun!

Cheers Simon

Hell, sorry about that.
Yeah, it was a "curate's egg": good in parts.
Having been a countryside ranger/warden for a long time, it felt a lot like being at work.

No worries mate, we all end up with baggage, I actually typed out two long essays in response and promptly deleted them. All is good with enough red wine.

Nice job, if I hadn't joined the army my next choice would have been the forestry commission, which coming from my part of Yorkshire is daft cos there aren't that many trees!

Hi Simon

I’m impressed with the work you’ve done and level you’ve achieved , nice tailoring on him and the headwear is a good shape as well

You going to add the sword before painting ?

Looking forward to seeing the coat colour and the final piece

Happy benchtime

Many thanks Kev, I did contemplate redoing the left arm so it doesn't hang so straight, but that's as far as I got. I remembered late last night he hasn't any spurs so I'll fettle that today then undercoat.

The sword will be painted separately, don't want to cross contaminate the blue with flecks of silver. The blue is going to take a little practice I think but that will be fun.

Cheers Simon

Hi Simon

Your definitely thinking this build through well and it shows with the result

As for the blue ...will be fun , not sure of the actual colour perhaps something similar to Cornflower Blue ?

Cheers Kev, yes the coat is cornflower blue and I'd best take notes on how I produce it as there are others wearing the same colour in the German Army of this period I want to do. Try and be organised for once in my life!

great work Simon, especially the coat. Straight hanging drapery is very difficult to get right.
it's going to look great in that blue

Oh I hope so, I think the German Army being what it was at this time there was no complicated folds and creases to worry about, I found the same doing a couple same era British officers in Frock coats. Just worried he looks a bit wooden, but not much I can do about that now.

I'll need to take a couple of days off now to play wonderfully childish games with my Granddaughter. I'll need a sanity reboot after that, she's only 4.

Cheers Simon

He's looking good Simon, I don't know how you can make that detail at that scale. Looking forward to see you start flinging paint.

Many thanks Henk, this is a little easier, till now I have done them in 1/35th using Historex as a base means I can do 54 to 60mm giving me more room. Also I'm short sighted, the glasses are for distance up close my vision is fairly good.

Cheers Simon

I managed a few hours this morning before my Granddaughter arrived, his face is ok but not totally happy with it, probably my changes made with green stuff, oh well. Got his boots/shoes done and the blue black trousers. Not sure if I need to do more highlighting, will revisit that once the coat is the correct colour. Fairly happy with the pink I made, Vellajo Off White, Vellajo Dark Vermillion about 60/40 and a slight touch of SC75 Deep Red. It's not too garish.
