If possible yes. the best tool for the job is always the biggest tool.
Taff if you go to one of the specialist automative shops you should be able to get wet and dry paper down to about 1200 grad from 320 ,400 600, 800,1000, 1200

For fine 800 should be good enough around 45p a sheet ,if you can't get it let me know and will sort.

Go careful with any snips mate...tends to be a bit uncontrolled...you might see bits flying off you didn't intend to ...done that myself in the past..makes you want to sit down and ave a bit of a cry

Which bits did you snip off that made you cry, sounds like you ain't so funky anymore :cry:

It was in fact the same pieces as Taff ....the carriers on the bottom of the boots and I lost the whole front of the foot as it pinged off across the garage...never did find the blighter ...anyway taught me a lesson not to use snips and to invest in a razor saw.... Still funky though
 
Got to be honest I remove all carriers before any paint hits the casting .... Cuts down on any handling of the paint work ......
