Next up. A Victor Konov sculpt for Pegaso. My favourite French Napoleonic Officer’s uniform. General of Brigade Francois Fournier (Sarlovese). Sarlovese in brackets because it was a post-Napoleonic addition to the general’s name. White metal casting. Currently cleaning him up prior to priming.

Here are some references including the famous portrait by Gros that the figure is based on.

Full-length, three-quarter portrait. The model is wearing a hussar costume: a red velvet jacket embroidered with gold thread and trimmings, red trousers embroidered with gold, a yellow silk belt and a red cape. He is holding a sabre in his right hand.

I know you have done this one before, because you said so in your last thread, but all that lace is a mammoth undertaking. I can understand why you like the uniform so much it really is very tempting, I'll watch your thread before I decide!

Cheers Simon

And some of you know I mostly do personality figures. This allows me to research the individual’s career and life story. As I’m also an historical autograph collector, I like to get a signature of characters I am modelling.

Here’s my signature of Francois Fournier, dated late 1815 (post-Waterloo) when he was Inspector General of cavalry under the returned Bourbon monarchy. Fournier did not align himself with Napoleon after his 1814 abdication.

Hi Colin

I detect a very happy Modeller having this on the bench

Great start with the references

Following with much interest

Looking forward to seeing more

Have fun and enjoy

Nap

PS A great 1/5th bust you did https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/new-bust-francois-fournier-sarlovese.65091/
Thanks Nap. There is a post in the bust string you provided that gives some background to his career as a duellist. As I’m sure everyone knows, Fournier was the inspo for Conrad’s “Feraud” in “The Duel” and for the same character played by Harvey Keitel in Ridley Scott’s first film, the award winning “The Duellists.”

I have modelled Fournier 6 times before this. The scratch bust you referenced; mounted and standing 28mm wargame figures; and in 140mm (scratch), 54mm (Historex conversion) and 1/48 scratch. The latter three can seen in this old thread.

My wife’s comment on seeing the new arrival: “Not Elvis hair again!”

A very nice piece of research, Colin!
I hope that one day a sculpture will form a 1/9 or 1/10 figure of Fournier. I think this figure would then fit exactly to the 180mm horse of the Chasseur of Le Cimier. ....Dreaming is allowed.....

Michael
You probably know Atelier Market produces a nice mounted Fournier but only in 75mm.

I would love to sculpt him large scale based on the Gros painting. I did Ney in 1/6 in 2004 using the body of a Dragon action figure as armature. Fournier is on my list.
