Dear Figureteers,

For those of you who are wondering what has become of the Yellow Moon mounted figure, here's it is in the current stage of painting.

To Rob and those who bought the figure at Euro and are still waiting for the box label and the instruction sheet: My ordeal is coming to an end. Yours is about to begin ;).

Thank you for your patience.(y)

But not OTT! ;)

looking sensational so far

cheers for the update

Thanks you folks for the warm response.

This is the second horse I painted and the first I did as a 'paint' or 'pinto' (Joe: (y)).

I don't know anything about horse (the little I did know when I painted the first one, I've forgotten) so the first thing I did was to learn a few basic things about horse colours (a can of worms. Now you've been warned).

Horse Colours

Carol Williams' Rio Rondo book

The CW book is indispensable if you're serious about this (very) complex issue.

Technically, the horse I depicted is a Chesnut Overo (chestnut being the base colour and Overo the pattern of the spots) with a slight Palomino gene (flaxen mane and tail). Not unlike the pic except for the mane and tail.

I have in-progress pics of the painting of the horse and will put it on line if some of you are interested.

I have to agree with the others. I expect to see that baby wake up and starts bawling :)

Very cool.

Images have been saved, links have been added to favorites - thanks Q !

And a Wonderful paint job you did, too - I can't wait to see the completed figure (y) Looks like you're having the time of your life finishing this one (c'mon, fess up, I just KNOW it's a labour of love for you, certainly not an ordeal, you never gave me that impression ;) )

Will you give us some colour mixes etc. too, please - thanks ;)

... and I'm saving my eurocents - guess what I'll buy for myself as a X-mas present !

Wow!

Looks great so far.
What size grasshopper antenna did you use to paint the baby's eyebrows?

Cheers
Andy

Very good paint job !

I have four Pili Pili figures/busts still to finish before I buy a new one. This looks very tempting.

Quite elementary, my dear doctor. It takes a BABY grasshopper's antenna to paint a BABY's eyebrows. ;)

Ronald: The flesh (baby's face) and the horse were done with oils over an acrylic base. Beadwork and other material (cloth, wool, skin,...) are painted in acrylics with a final wash in oils (paint + liquin) to give some unity to the various components.

Here's some more pice. A close-up of the little brave and a view of the horse crupper which I've just finished.

Hello Quang,

I seen it at Euro and it was awesome. Now when painted, i cannot believe my eyes.
I cannot find the words, for saying how good it is. So you choose some and sing loud and clear " He find me the Greatest ".
Or when you cannot sing, let the Fenders speak. ;)
Beautiful job, Awesome and many many more.

Quang,

This is looking beautiful. I agree with Joe and others in saying that the paint job on the horse is turning out wonderfully. It's incredibly realistic. Since you offered, it would be great to see and learn more about your SBS in painting the horse. Most modelers don't tackle the more complex color schemes, so it would be a treat to gain some insight on how you went about it.
