Just a quick note here: These were done in 1807 by a German illustrator, he is presumed to really have seen these uniforms, and he did paintings of all the types of French soldiers of The Grande Armee he saw - this is the so called Otto manuscript.... some details are so weird that he cannot have imagined them, he must have really seen them himself.

So this is generally considered a first hand pictorial source for Napoleonic uniforms.


Dani, have you noticed that the officer has a Legion d'Honneur medal on his coat, just visible under the shoulder belt? Most Imperial guard officers would indeed have been members of the Legion d'Honneur too I guess...
