I am painting a Waffen SS officer in the early type uniform. So using the Jo Sonja acrylic paints can you guys answer a couple of questions for me?
1.What would the best color to use as the base color for German Field Gray?
2.If there is not a one particular color that JS has, what colors would be used for the German Field Gray color?
Also I need to know the mid tone colors as well as the highlight colors too if this is possible?
I used to use Tamiya paints and they have a German Field Gray color but since I started using JS I never looked back.
Thank you,
Chris

I would say, take your pick, looking at these.....(y)

valiant, I'm looking at your photo, and I think most likely the top row is the best color (s) I want to go for when painting my figure. I guess it is the traditional German field gray color. thank you.

yes I have noticed that. wow. I even watched the cross of iron movie to get some ideas. But i think the text book way is what i am looking for.

A good starting point in JS paints would be maybe a muted grey blue like Storm Blue or French Blue mixed with a muted yellow like Yellow Oxide or Raw Sienna. I'm an oils man but I'm trying switch to acrylics myself at the minute. I'm slowly learning the quirks of Jo Sonja paints, I'm liking them a lot :)

p.s Have you tried their mediums, I love their Flow medium and Magic Mix.

Hi
The basic grey is Black + White ....Known as dead Grey
A better way of achieving Grey is Black +Skin tone

Having mixed your grey ....its a matter of putting
whatever colour with it to bring it to your
desired choice

Hope this might be of help
