OK I know its a model railway depicting typical troop movements leading up to D-Day but it does depict typical railway liveries of the WW2 period;

I also think this would be good with a few additions of putty .....

Rework the hair to being more unkept and straggly

Open a pocket up , maybe a torn sleeve

On painting : dirty them up , 5 o'clock shadow , bags under the eyes through lack of sleep

Just my thoughts ...plenty of potential to really lift this already good piece
