Nice start but a lot to do, glad your doing the Owen rather than the ubiquitous Thompson or Lee Enfield.

Cheers Simon

Great work on the head, the islanders in this part of the world have a certain racial set of features that will be a challenge, he's certainly looking the part already.

Great news project Robert Jan. Those guys look really hard!

Excellent sculpt work, Robert!

Thanks Guys!

They sure were a tough bunch…

Take this action for example;
On 18 January 1943, Sergeant Kari was at the village of Sabari, with a patrol that had the task of denying the enemy a possible escape route to the north. A large party of enemy was being tracked by Kari’s scouts and they walked into his carefully prepared ambush. In the fierce battle that followed, Kari’s actions led to the enemy being eliminated and the track denied to them. Kari was personally responsible for killing 31 Japanese. He was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery and leadership.

Sunday morning progress….

Sculpted the arms and resculpted the shorts.
Also some more work on his facial features for a bit more determination.

Next step is the webbing. Then it is pretty much done and I can start painting after a last quality check.

The hand with the Owen gun wil be attached later in the painting process and will need some little sculpting.

Nice work on the arms, you said you were to carve them, much the same way as Alan Ball sculpts? They certainly look well done making the muscle definition softer and natural, love it.

I believe Alan carves all the detail. I blocked in the arms first with MS. Then I carved as much as possible in the basic shape. If needed I added a little putty and blend in it on the basic shape. After it dries I do some scraping and sanding for a smooth finish.

I've seen Alan sculpt a head from a semi cured block if Magicsculpt in a demonstration, very interesting. Your approach sounds more doable, never tried a figure with any more bare skin than the lower limbs, it's very educational, thank you.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Nap and Simon.
Ready for paint. The webbing is done with tape, buckles are done with duro. The machete is a paper prop for now.
I gonna make the machete from some thin plastic card. A necklace and machete scabbard will be added later.
