I will sculpt the arm next.
The hand will be loose then so I can paint the rifle separate.

Makes a lot of sense, saves awkward painting angles. One question, if you had to have an arm completely separate would you sculpt it detached, or on the figure then cut it off?

Cheers Simon

Never did it before, but I probably sculpt it and the cut it off if necessary. Sculpting a loose arm seems too fiddly to me.
What I do most of the time is painting all that I can and the attach the hand or sculpt other items and paint them as last.

Sculpting takes a lot of preplanning and thinking ahead and engineering sometimes.

Working on the right arm.

First some copper wire cut to length and bended in the right angle. Positioning of the hand and rifle.
Then a first layer of MS, hardened in the oven for 30 minutes at 50 degrees Celsius.
First a little carving. Then added a second layer for some better shape of the arm. I gonna let it dry overnight this time. Then some little carving later if needed. Then it will be ready for clothing.

Nice curing it in the oven is a good idea, not sure I'd trust my gas oven though. This is coming together very nicely looking forward to seeing it painted.

Cheers Simon

Hallo all,

It took a while since my last post…. Lots of other stuff to do besides modelling but I finished the Wingate figure.
More pictures in the Completed forum.
