Under the circumstances I don't think you had much choice but to use artistic license, thing is apart from some aboriginal elders there isn't anybody to say it is wrong. Since the figure is representative of a people fighting for their independence as opposed to a given individual it was the best way forward. Either way it's a really great figure.

Finished this one yesterday.
Got some bad luck with twice breaking his leg during painting. A third time and I propably would have dumped him…

Hello all,

Started with the basics for a new figure. A Iban scout during the Indonesian confrontation 62-66.
I am using this beautiful Kevin Lyles illustration for inspiration. Looking forward to do the tattoos, but that will be a challenge. Also gives me the opportunity to use a Lee enfield no5.

Hope to do an update soon.

Looks like a nice choice of subject mate, faded denims and 44 pattern webbing. Looking forward to seeing the tattoos, never an easy thing to depict especially faded older ones, all mine are coloured so not much use as reference!

Cheers Simon

Thanks my friend. All nice stuff to model and paint. Gonna look to those fantasy guys who do a lot of freehand detailing and see how they do such things.
