Model is 54 mm scale (1/32; about 2 1/2" height.); material is tin alloy.

As well as a signifer, a cornicen was a duplicarius (= who gets double pay), who had to pass the commands through a longer distance by acustic signals.
Beside the visual transmission of commands by a signum a bugle (cornu) was used for acustic transmission. This bugle, curved in three quarters of a circle and embracing three octavos, was carried by a cornicen, who was a non-commissiond officer.

Concerning equipment, there is no difference between a cornicen and a signifer. He carries a hide, too, so that he is distinguishable to the other legionaries. His armour and helmet were covered in a wolf skin, and he would usually also carry a small circular shield.
Cornicen and signifer were connected by their function. When the cornu was blown the signum moved and within the whole unit.
Whether the cornicen and the cornu had to fulfil tasks concerning music is not sure but you can presume that military music like today wasn't existing.
