Hi all, now that Uxbridge is finished I decided that for my next paint job I would be selfish and paint a kit that is one of my own sculpts, the Roman Optio. Picked up the kit from the lads at MMM and a quick look shows 12 pieces. I will try to be non biased when I do this, it received quite good reviews from the planetiers here, apart from one but I cant please everybody. So heres a pic of the bits

Ill do the clean up and primer and then post some more

thanks for looking in and as usual any comments are welcome

Paul

On first look, the amount of clean up on the body is not to bad at all. mainly large bits that with a few razor saw cuts come away and then a bit of filing. I one that doesnt mind cleaning and sanding a figure to get a good result, i know many people hate that bit but i see it as part of the hobby. The detail on the tunic, chainmail and the medals have come out really well, as has the head.

Just ordered this kit myself - superb sculpting!! I dont know how anyone could find falt with it...i hope to see many more scuplts! (y)

cheers bud, as the old saying goes you cant please all the people all of the time only some of them some of the time ;)

Bit of work done on the face and helmet, more to do with the face and the brasswork on the helmet

need to do a bit more work on the brass areas, they are just a bit to gold at the mo

cheers for the comments guys
Steve Im not worried mate, just hate rivet counters, I think constructive criticism is a great thing, it makes you think about what your doing and should improve your work, but when someone slates your work with no explanation its meaningless and I havnt time for them.

This one will be a bit slow as I started a new job which involves an intense course with exams in it, never thought id be going back to school at my age :(

Found this today Nice start, I am waiting for my copy to arrive, will be interesting to see how my style with oils work with all that metal, shall be doing it in tandem with the 21st Lancer, and will post progress wip's as each stage progresses.

Malc good to see someone else doing this, I have to put mine on hold at the mo so im looking forward to watching yours progress

Hi Paul,

I'd say you need to decide what kind of feedback you want. Planetfigure is more of a warm fuzzy safe environment these days that doesnt criticise and rarely gives anything constructive.

It is very true that you cant please everyone - but majority dont seem to notice (or care about) glaring anatomical or sculpting issues, forget historical ones ( here I am talking in general, not your figure, and I dont have OCD or autistic spectrum disorder as far as I can tell).
And, true, that there are things that could be better, that, should you chose to take on board, would take you to new level as a sculptor.

I disagree I've had a lot of constructive criticism here, you don't have slag something off to criticise it it's a matter of approach I feel. Personally I'm no sort of sculptor (milliput snakes is about my skill level :D ) so I don't comment on something I have no clue about going on the theory if it looks right it is right

Totally agree with that one.

I sculpt primarily rather than paint and I kind of gave up on seeking constructive feedback on PF as there isnt much forthcoming. But I also notice that some reasonable (in terms of pointing out issues) observations are often dismissed as rivet counting (again, not talking about this figure specifically).
And, yes, there is some harsh criticism now and again that cant be used to progress- but its very rare now, it sticks out like as sore thumb. Personally I dont find Brutal Honesty section works that well either.
There are a few people who's opinion I would value - but they dont comment anymore, mainly for same reasons.

Dont want to hijack Pauls thread so I better stop:D .
