Hi Peter

Good progress and a good colour choice , looking really good so far

Question ...do you paint in sections ie: front and then matching the back ?

Thanks for update

Look forward to the next

Happy benchtime

Nap

Mike - Thank you.

Nap - Yes, I paint in small sections at a time. That helps with the wet-on-wet and also avoids having to continually touch up those areas you've already painted. Next, I'll do the back, then the sides. Glad you approve so far.

Graham - Many thanks.

Hi Peter!

Even not my kind of stuff - type of figure, can recon quality when i see it. Your painting is first rate and sincerely i love to see your work posted here. Thanks for sharing!:joyful:

Cheers,
Pedro.

Morning Peter

Lovely colour choices and great drapery too, the sculpt is really giving you a super canvas to work on.

There is loads of detail too with the medal, crucifix, frill on the sash, and more every time I look at the figure.

This one is not just front of cabinet but a serious pedestal too.

Looks like another fun day ahead as you work your way around the sculpt.

Have a good day with the paints.

Hopefully your sinusitis is easing off by now?

Regards

Morning Steve

It's all down to the sculpt - quality will out. Lovely to work on, with every surface textured in some way and some mind-blowing detail to play with. On to the back today which has some big locating scars for the equipment, which I neve like. Sinusitis is slightly better thank you. Breakfast first.......

Hi Peter

Thanks for the insight into how you aporoach a piece ...it's certainly working and absolutely do approve !

Glad to hear your feeling better ...enjoy the breakfast ....and the benchtime

Happy brushing

Cheers Nap.

The main part of the figure is now done:

Apologies for the shininess; the green at least is going to need a couple of coats of varnish.

Peter

What to say except that's looking so so good .....you should be really proud of this so far

The textures of clothing are showing well

What paints are you using regarding the shine ?

Enjoying this very much

Look forward to the next update

Happy bench-time

Nap - Reasonably pleased with how it's going, thanks. I'm using Vallejo Model Colour as usual, and I find it's just luck of the draw with shine. The greens I'm using are particularly prone to it, but a coat or two of Daler Rowney Acrylic Matt Varnish will sort it out. There are matt mediums that you can use with Vallejo, but I find that they thin the paint too much for my liking.

Graham - Many thanks.

Morning Peter

Super progress with the sculpt and great leatherwork too.

Looks like the accessories next and that string bag with veg will be a fun item to paint.

I am sure you will enjoy that one.

Have fun with the re felted hat too.

Enjoy the paints

Morning Steve

Yes, onto the accessories next, so I get to treat each piece as a mini-project. I refurbished the hat yesterday with a new hatband and Milliput rosette, so I will probably start on that first.

I also stripped down four older busts yesterday. I found this time that Dettol didn't cut the mustard, but a quick bath in Cif Power and Shine did the trick - recommended. Good to be able to add to the stash.

Thank you for your posts Peter. Amazing job so far...

I'm about to start with this child and you work is an inspiration. I'm still thinking in the color scheme and other details. Very interested how did you do the hat, it seems easy but I feel it's going to be little tricky because of the texture...

Hi Fran

I initially painted the hat as straw - a light background with the highlights picked out with with an even lighter tone. However, I didn't like the effect once it was on the figure, feeling the face needed a darker frame. I therefore sanded off the texture with the intention of painting it as felt, perhaps brown or dark grey - see later.....

Here's what he looks like now:

I had some real shenanigans with the hat. I started by trying to paint what I'd initially prepared, which was the hat as supplied, but with the woven texture sanded off. It turned out that I hadn't done a great job of cleaning it up and it looked terrible under a layer of paint. I therefore decided to completely rebuild it, retaining just the crown and adding a new brim, hatband and rosette. It was touch and go, but I think it looks reasonably OK.

Then it was on to the gourd, which took forever. Blimey!
