Oh dear ................ I've said something wrong. :nailbiting:

But I assume then that while sarcasm doesn't seem to be permitted by some, it is considered bon ton to express the indirect hope that 'politicians' and 'elitists' awaits the same fate as French aristocrats during 'La Terreur' (6 September 1793 – 28 July 1794)? One of the most shameful chapters in French history in which approximately 50.000 men, women and children were murdered?

Well...... love you too Brian. Hugs.

Gary, Cheers mate. Not a fan of her politics but I have to disagree with you about her commitment....
But that's OK plenty of my closest friends share your view.
As a foreigner I think she appears to be a sincere person. Devinely devoted to the Scottish Cause. Well..... she might still be a bit haunted by Cumberland and the Highland Clearances. But that's understandable.

Time to bring this back to things that matter.......she's actually better looking than she appears on TV.
And before you say anything Guys (you know who you are) .. you would if only you still could :p
Personally I wouldn't, but that's only because I'm worn out from chasing all those gorgeous foreign nurses in my wheelchair.......................can't remember why.............................or how :cry::cry:.

Maybe I should point out that English is not my 'mother tongue'. Therefore I might experience some difficulty in understanding the lines above.

It would appear however that the author seems to be frustrated because of current political developments in his country and might even experience emotions that could be described as anger. This seems to be directed towards politicians and members of the more elitist segment of society.

What does seem to be quite clear however is that, according to the author, the fate of these social groups is sealed. For he clearly draws a parallel between the fate of the French aristocracy during the revolution and that of the aforementioned groups in the modern United kingdom. They could find their head in 'the basket' within a short period of time.:nailbiting:

My dear man I have to ask you: do you really propose public execution by Guillotine as a solution for political issues? You can't be serious!

Whatever happened to the spirit of the Scarlet Pimpernel? Did it disappear when Leslie Howard passed away?

My dear Rossbach. thee spirit of the Scarlet Pimpernel isalive and well, but Lesli, and imprisone Howard????????? Pu-leese, you really must bring your video collection up to date- I believe the last one was Richard E Grant :)
Seriously though, I don't mean murder, but I would like to kick them out of their comfortable livings ...............at our expense, put them on trial for treason, and then imprison them. How could you possibly think of such a barbarous solution :rolleyes::rolleyes:
Best wishes, Gary.

I like Nichola Sturgeon - I think leather and latex, whips and chains every time I see her.

Huw.............. I have the same visions of her!

Well................ you're Welch are you not? And I am from the part of Holland were they speak a dialect that no one else understands and were the mines were closed during the '70's.

So there is a spiritual connection. Although my rich tenor voice cannot be admired in a choir singing Rhyfelgyrch Gwŷr Harlech:

"Hark! I hear the foe advancing,
Barbed steeds are proudly prancing,
Helmets in the sunbeams glancing
Glitter through the trees.
Men of Harlech, lie ye dreaming?
See ye not their falchions gleaming,
While their pennons gaily streaming
Flutter in the breeze?
From the rocks rebounding,
Let the war cry sounding
Summon all at Cambria's call,
The haughty foe surrounding,
Men of Harlech, on to glory!
See, your banner famed in story
Waves these burning words before ye
"Britain scorns to yield!"

Its pretty arrogant to think that we know what's best for the better educated younger people.

Well, if you were me, you'd be arrogant too. :D

I'm an ancient 51. I spent 30 of those years wearing the cloth of my country. I spent more time that I care to remember in combat. I engaged in activities that not only influenced the national security of my own country but also shaped the foundations of another. And I know that I shake my head when I hear what some of the younger, "better educated" people are saying. Better education doesn't mean the person can make a better decision.

We need to argue on facts not emotion, rhetoric, and what has appeared on this thread to be some pretty incorrect perceptions......

I agree. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, most of the younger generation are arguing on just that.

Limburger I assume?

there was even one woman who said she voted leave because she thought they'd lose and now she wanted to change her mind and to top it all there's an online petition by those who lost wanting a second try :mad::mad:.
!

Actually, the 2nd referendum petition is a nice example of irony.
It was triggered by a Brexit supporter even before the vote to have a try at frustrating the poll result if it were not to his liking. He managed to get more than 100,000 signatures. After the vote many Remain supporters (about 3,000,000 and counting) signed up to his initiative. Now the originator complains that his petition is being 'hijacked' and really is not necessary anymore (despite the result percentages not meeting the ones he proposed in it).
So cute. :)

As to the lady voting for the opposite of what she wanted....a nice illustration of why referendums are such a bad idea. "You can't trust democracy to the public" (it's a quote, probably not accurate, forgot from who).

Gary: thank you. On behalf of all of us here in Paris. Now we can sleep uninterrupted again and go on with our jolly useless lives (needless to say at the expense of the masses).

Grant was quite good indeed. More true to Orczy's original character then Howard.

Paul, much more of this and we'll make you an honourary Englishman.
Regards mon ami, Gary.
PS My favourite Pimpernel was Sid James.
