Gaudin you have said more than once in this thread that it was your last comment, pity you hadn't left it at that. Team America lyrics really?
Derek

Del, I said it was my last comment at that time. What can I say - I am easily trolled. I will learn.

Quote wise - it was Freedom is the only way, yeah. Each one's truth is most truthful.

And yet again - I also said that I recognise impact on his family and at no point i said it was ok or just, on the contrary - I think it isn't. My point was that I refuse to take one sided view of a biased newspaper that doesn't give all the facts, only what is convenient for the story. I am waiting for Thursday and, may be a surprise for some, waiting for the guy to be released

Now, may it come as a relief and joy to some - I truly finished.
Derek. thank you for reality check (honest)

This is what makes for a healthy forum, an open expression of opinion without going over into direct offence and insult.
The BIG issue for me is the broader impact on his family. Judges apply more than a little degree of discression in respect of sentencing and on the face of it the collateral 'damage' caused by this sentence has disproportionately punished his wife and children. Compare the impact on society of the criminal actions of some bankers. How many of them were jailed and for the very few that did get custodial sentences what was the impact on their pensions, prospects, homes, honours etc.

Couldn't agree more Del and that was done knowingly and willingly and deliberately, a fact that seems to have been overlooked in Danny Nightingales case.

I'm just surprised the Telegraph stuck with his wife's real name. Surely throwing in the name Florence would've whipped up even more fervour.

Cant get over the fact that an ex soldier who brings home a reward from a foreign government gets jailed, yet a know terrorist gets put out on bail and on benefits just because if he were to face justice the nasty people might hurt him. My hurt bleeds purple piss.

Finally some common sense
Sgt Danny Nightingale, 37, from Crewe, admitted possessing the 9mm Glock pistol and 338 rounds of ammunition at a court martial earlier this month.
Judges at the Court of Appeal reduced Nightingale's sentence to 12 months.
They suspended the sentence and said he could be released immediately.

Hi There,
That is all great, but do,nt forget his sentence was reduced not Quashed so he will still have a criminal record.
Regards
George

Excellent news!... Now get rid of the original idiot judge!... send him on a tour of duty.

I am delighted he has been released butit must be pointed out he was tried by a Courts Marshall but released by a civilian appeals court.
