Hi guys

I've decided to start this figure again.

I have to fill in the etched camouflage on the uniform and to do this I need to strip off the camouflage I've painted on and fill the etched surface details to make it smooth again.

Then I will paint the correct Australian multicam camouflage scheme rather than the DPCU pattern I'd originally painted.

Thanks to Al Mackie for keeping me true to my mission. It's taken 3 months to get this far but it hasn't been wasted.

I'm donating this figure to the SAS Resources Fund, who supports the widows and children of fallen members of the Regiment. It simply must be perfect and I was wrong to take shortcuts. Hopefully when it's finished it will raise a lot of money and take pride of place on someone's mantle piece.

Until then, I have to dig in for a long couple of sessions to fill in the etching before the repainted can begin.

That's a real dedication there ...please do share the WIP on the camo/ clothing ..be interesting to see this .

All credit to you a fne thing to do by donating the figure to raise money for the fund .

Rather than strip back everything, I've decided to apply Josonja Texture Paste over the figure and use the paste to fill in the etched surface details of the camouflage pattern. It will take several coats to get it evenly smooth. Here's the result after two coats.

The texture paste will then be lightly sanded before the reprinting begins.

I need to do more research on the uniform. I'm still not 100% certain if the camouflage pattern is DPDU or multicam. Im hoping to gain access to original pieces from the SAS Regiment so I can complete the task with complete confidence.

Hi guys, I wanted to provide an update on this project.

I was dissatisfied with my original treatment of the camouflage on this figure and chose to paint over the the sculpted patterns with Josonja texture paint. I've recently been fortunate to visit the museum at the Australian SAS headquarters at Campbell Barracks in Swanbourne here in Perth (thanks to ChrisR) and was able to explore the archives and take countless photos of the original gear worn by the SAS in Afghanistan and in Vietnam.

Here are some of the photos I'm able to share with you that show the uniform I intend to paint.

Consequently I've discovered several flaws in the design of the uniform of this figure. The clothing sculpted on this figure is not entirely accurate and now I have the evidence to prove it.

I know that it probably doesn't matter to many people, but the person who buys this piece at auction is probably someone who wore this uniform in combat, and it must be 100% accurate if it's going to attract top dollars. More importantly to me, I want the person who buys this piece to love it and feel it represents him and his mates with pride.

A few minor changes will see this figure corrected, and then I can tackle the multicam with greater confidence and accurate reference material.

Even with no shading or highlights Tony this looks stunning. Please can you share the colours you use? Also any advice as to what wine and quantity I should drink it in to achieve these results lol .
Cannot wait for your progress.
Peter.

Well, from July 23 cold cast bronze in a box and Led Zeppelin, to Oct.28 and what's turning out to be a fantastic piece of painted sculpture. I think you're starting to have fun now. (sorry I can't tell what the cd is)
