This SBS covers sculpting a closed mouth. Mouth/lip size and shape varies so there is no one way to do it. The purpose of this sbs is to just get the wheels (in your head) turning.

This illustration shows the head and the position of all the facial features and their relationship to one another. Unless you are sculpting a cartoon-like head meauring is important here.

start by placing a line, this indicates the position of the mouth in relation to the other features.

NOTE This head is roughly 1/9 scale. I chose a larger scale so that it would be easier to photograph. It's possible to use this method on almost any scale head.

Note the corners of the mouth line up with the center of the eyes.

A spatula is used to indicate the position of the lower lip.

At this stage you can also indicate the area of the upper chin.

Czolem Gary,
just one little question :
what is the scale for this lesson?
a very useful one, I should add

Dario

Here the sides are blended at an angle using a spatula. You can alo do this with an X-acto, which will also help to remove any excess material.

A smaller piece is now rolled out and placed over the area of the lower lip.

The size of this piece and the last are up to you. More material can always be added if need be.

The spatula is taken and "split" the bottom lip in half and pull this material down onto the top of the chin.

Thanks

Now I know why I joined the Planet

I'm sat here at my desk with a pile of month-end accounts to get through, and what am I doing - watching a Gary Dombrowski SBS on the web! Hell, what's more important?

Excellent stuff Gary, and many thanks for making the effort to share it with us

Regards

Phil
