Thanks guys (y)
Made some progress over the last few days on Atheas who's now almost finished. I'll give him the once over later and take some pictures.

Next big decision will be the horse colour - I'd originally thought to paint it a dark bay similar to the illustration in the Osprey book thinking that would show off the bronze decorations nicely, but I'm now wondering about a lighter colour or something similar to an original steppes horse which is more interesting visually
Cheers

Hi Paul

Look forward to the pics later

I like the variation in colour on the steppe horse , will add more interest to the piece as the figure isn't actually on it

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Exactly my thinking (y) The saddle itself isn't very interesting and that leaves a lot of horse rump which is basically just dark brown at the back of the base . . .

Cheers mate (I'll not mention the whip thing);), but I liked the striped pole.

Photo's not the best, but give you an idea - I might make a couple of adjustments when he's based up with his Nag

Morning all - managed to squeeze in quite a bit of modelling time (well painting anyway) this week so I'm calling the horse finished for the moment.

Here's a coupe of pictures to give you a flavour (slightly blurry - sorry)

I originally painted the horse in the buff/sand/black colours of the typical 'Steppes' pony and it looked completely wrong:arghh: So I repainted in the dark bay with dark legs shown which fits the colour scheme I had in mind first. (I did keep the dorsal stripe which is so typical of ancient breeds though)
I decorated the sheet plastic face decorations with thinned gesso to build up some texture (Nearly went cross eyed doing this even with my close up lens - I have no idea how professional sculptors manage)
Once the base is made up I'll add the reins and I've even got a few of the decorations left over.

Stay safe
Paul

Cheers Bud - Pretty happy how it turned out in the end. (y)
Debating about the groundwork, but I'll probably go for something simple with some steppes grass broken up by a rock or two.

Thanks both :D
I haven't really felt in the mood to get this based up for the last few days (although I've made up the base and shaped the DAS that's as far as I've got)
I'll get back to it hopefully later this week :)
Cheers
