... or a Bête du Gévaudan!

Have you seen 'Le Pacte des Loups' (Brotherhood of the Wolves)? Great movie, great dvd. Sneered upon by the 'historians' and the cinéphiles but still one of my all-time favourites.

Sorry, guys, off topic!

Here! Here! Excellent movie. I've had it since it came out! Discovered a double disc version not long after only available from 1 store! I hate that.

TOP MOVIE

Rob

... La bete de Gevaudan! Well, YES, but of course! Same kind of setting, but in 18th century France! Quang, that IS a good idea! It also really happened, but I can't recall, what was it in the end that did all the killing? I thought they shot a few wolves, but there's also a theory that it was really a lynx, no?

... who knows, the Sherlock Holmes story may be in part based on these events?

I never saw the movie I think - thanks for the tip! (y)

And again, I apologize for drifting off topic...

Rob,

I have the 3-dvd 'leather book' collector's edition (in french only, alas).

Now they've released a new 4-dvd 'hologram cover' edition (also in french). Film on dvd 1, extras on dvd 2&3 and a documentary on the real beast on the fourth dvd.

Nobody wants it (they all have the 3-dvd version). So they put it on discount for 25-35 Euros! If you're interested, just let me know.

BTW, if you've seen the movie, you should know where the inspiration for my Huron comes from.

Guys,

Thanks for the input and kind comments. Quang, from your other topic I want to say again I agree with you and from this I will keep in it in mind for future projects.

For the groundwork. The main portion of the stone wall is a resin casting made from what rail road modelers use. Bill Chilstrom had cast it and gave it to me. I then took sheet plastic and framed it out on the back and left side if looking at it. On the top I also made a sheet plastic top. I then used AVES putty and sculpted the sides and the tops to look like rocks. I was working on another project and had a little left over putty and this is when I decided to add the stones on the ground. The tree is an Armand Bayardi. I cut off two large stones that were attached and then sculpted the bark in the voids. I then glued the tree down and sculpted the roots coming out from the tree. The bush is from our own Gordy. I then used the remainder of Magic sculpt to form the groundwork. When this had dried I covered the whole thing with Celluclay. While it was wet I added small twigs, dirt and static grass.

Painting:

I painted the wall and the tree flat black, using an airbrush. I then painted it in Vallejo's using different shades of gray, greens and red. If anyone is interested I can give the specifics.

I hope this helps. :)

Wow Joe, another awesome piece (y) (y) (y)
I do think that Quang's cropping of the scene looks more dramatic but what the hell, you've done a fantastic job anyway, I love it.

JOE!!! Dude, this looks AWESOME! I hope to see it in Atlanta. I really like the composition and animation on Sherlock Holmes.

"It's in the hole! ...... It's in the hooooooole!"

Guys,

Thanks for the kind comments. I will keep in mind what Quang pointed out on my future projects.

Hey Pete,

I will have him in Atlanta and I look forward to talking with you.

Joe

"Not gopher's, golfers!"

Joe,

Awesome job on your “Sherlock or the Hound†vignette … can’t wait to see him in Atlanta…

I didn't see it that way. Yes, the surroundings made the figure look slightly smaller, but I saw it as creating the environment. I't not like you used a 12" x 12" base to do it. Live, it looked more compact.

Hey Joe,
The whole scene looks great, I like it just the way it is.

Your entire display at the M.F.C.A was outstanding, beautifully painted fugures.

I to, Am sorry I missed you, would have loved to chat and enjoy a beer with you,
hopefully next time.

By the way your work, also looks much better than the pictures, the pictures don't
to it justice.

Roc :)

Hey Roc,

Thanks so much. We will have to make sure we all hook up at the next show. I look forward to chatting with you and seeing your next projects.
