OK Enoughs enough, is it me or is it nearly EVERY time some painter or manufacturer posts his work of a soldier from the Third Reich or Jack the Ripper or Che Guevara etc etc etc .. We have to
Put up with the " OH No he's a murderour, history said he did this war crime or that, why paint him, next they will be sculpting poor baby seals being clubbed to death " etc etc ...

Is it just me this gets to ? Or am I just having a bad day ?

DOES it have place on figure painting forums where guys just want painting feadback or historical Accuracy ? Be honest ...

Should there be a separate part here where the PC brigade or one sided historians can thrash it out ? THEN I can sit back and pee my pants as I watch.

Some may say whatever don't read such threads.. Come on my fave' sculptor posts a thread - new release and he getting battered ! Etc .. It's not on really is it. Or some body wants advice etc then the "He killed innocent civvy or soldiers" etc .. It starts off totally INOCENT then bang they are out in force.

I'd like to set up a poll but not sure if it will work. I filled out the correct section so we will see if it works.... If not maybe some body more Computer savvy can sort it out please .

As you were

It does have it's place I think within reason at the end of the day we tend to lose sight of the fact that the models we paint are/were real people with all that entails, and so some figures will carry more baggage than others, especially if they are of a period within living history then it's going to raise hackles at times. For my own personal reasons I won't buy/paint WWII German or Japanese subjects, I have no real problem with people who do however it's just my personal choice.

Steve

Steve that's rediculous in my view !! I guess you would NOT drive a Subaru or BMW then - Crazy ! Actually choosing not to paint German soldiers is ALOT worse in my eyes given they are just miniature soldiers ... I guess if yourself dad or grandad etc suffered in a Japanese pow camp then I could see the point, I'm talking more of the "What do you think of my painting or my sculpt" kind of posts where idiots pipe up HE killed POWs ! Etc etc etc ... That hasn't NOTHING to do with the thread !! How is that relavent Steve ? How does that thread warrant a place for that talk ? Yes they are soldiers but do I care about your left wing or right wing views and your one sided history ?

Have to agree with you Carlos, lot of sad people with nothing better to do than complain.
Where do we draw the line, Ancient Egyptions killed millions, ordered by their Pharoh. Ancient Greeks killed millions ordered by their various kings. Europe, Asia, America you name it they have killed millions but the moaners need a target so why not AH. He just did what many before him did including our mob and there is no real way to say "nobody did it" and hide our head in the sand.
Guevara didnt really kill that many in South America but if you go back to Bolivar, there was a real killer.
Every generation has its mad men leading some mob or another so if you are a misguided PC chap you can take your pick.
However if there had been no wars there would have been no really great figures for us to paint.

Sorry Steve crazy was probably a bit harsh if you did have familly that suffered by the Germans and Japanese but I'm getting more at the innocent painting and sculpting threads were wanna be historians preach there rubbish only. Not about the sculpt or paint.

Sorry if it came across the wrong way .. I know what I'm getting at ...

I totally agree Don !

I don't want to come across out of order here and not wanting to start some campaign. I'm not some supporter of Jack the Ripper or Lenin etc etc BUT of late poor innocent threads are getting bashed and I see it more than most as I cannot help but paint Field Grey !

I'm not drunk btw ; )

Please cast your vote if it works, I'm keen to see the results as I hope others are.

Both sides have valid points. Yes Don I see your point on the ancient Egyptians and all that etc, however I have to side with Steve. While the second world war is in living memory I don't think that I would feel comfortable having any axis mini's decorate my shelves. I've read books by soldiers from both sides so please don't think me ignorant.

Taffjones the question is do you think it appropriate to post crap on say a post on a bust of Hitler when the painter is asking for critique. Not would you paint German soldiers etc ..

Maybe I didn't put it to well ?

Dont think you did, seemed like more of a rant to m than a question. I was simply showing my feelings on this area of topic.

Carlos ,

I have voted and am only too willing to say it was a YES .........this is as has been said before a hobby and we ALL love the hobby whatever subject/scale/subject WE CHOOSE as individuals selectto sculpt/release/paint.

Members are of course entitled to their views buts lets not loose the purpose of the forum and hobby ...Modelling .

Taffjones your reply had nothing to do with the question. You think it's a rant ? Maybe it is ... I want to know if I'm alone in the crap I keep seeing on innocent posts. Don't worry it seems its wasted on you. Who CARES WHAT YOU PAINT ? Not me I want to know for those that struggle with the question should politics be brought in to threads and one sided history when one just wants critique. Maybe you should read it again.

Nap your comment again not sure it's related, I to love the hobby and its ONLY a hobby and paint Sculpt what you want but isn't the current trend of bangin on about he's a murderour etc tiresome ?!

Carlos I do fully understand the question and I'm sorry if your not able to pick out my answer so I will put it simply for you to save further confusion. Yes I think politics has its place here.

No Don't see your answer only that your another " I don't paint Germans pathetic follower" keep up the good work ...

I think that politics are involved in all of our actions. As i said in the Che thread, i do think that it is a valid discussion (to learn history, at least), but in a own thread. And with no "finger pointing".

I am against jugdemental political comentaries in painting or sculpting threads. If you dont like the theme of the figure, start a new discussion elsewhere or shut up.

For example, if someone posts a painting of a Stalin figure, talk about the figure. You want to discuss the historic background of the figure? Nice, start a thread. But do not act like an idiot and say things like "Oh, nice figure, but bad subject, he is a murderer, bla bla bla"

Just my two cents

Filipe
