Hi Guys

Inspired by Mick's recent WIP on the Rob Lane sculpt of a Skinners Horse Offcer in Mess dress , it's released by Hawk Minatures

The challenge is of course the yellow ...so many variations in references including different versions of the waistcoat lacing as seen here and of course those in my review

Hi Guys

Thanks for the comments

Mick

As with all of Robs sculpts ....this makes it enjoyable

The pics are actually slightly darker than in reality ...good old iPad pics !!!!

Bob

Hopefully I can do it justice ....I will have 3 ribbons rather than 2 .

Happy times

Hi Guys

Worked on the colour a little more ...not going further a I am quite pleased with it ( atm !!!)

Mick ...As the nameplate has 1908 the ribbons will be pre that date ...Oh and having a "longer cigar" does not mean everything ....ask Carole...:(;)

Bob.....No idea what you mean about my flowing locks ....LOL(y)

PS ...Found this great edition from TRADITION ( number 50 ) many moons ago , brilliant reference for the Indian Cavalry

I like your start Nap....but based on your reference; Don't you think there is something a bit wrong with that cap?.....The eyes look great...….

Wayne:)

Hi Wayne

Do you mean the way it's sculpted more open at the crown , not so close together in the centre as in the top picture which is showing more yellow ?

On the sculpt it looks a little smaller and more pushed onto the head ...opening up the centre

Here's 2 side views of the cap in the National Army museum and the boxart painted by Dave Maddox

Thanks for the comment ref eyes

Cheers

I think the issue is that it needs to be deeper, overall, with a bit more in contact with the head and more standing off at the crown - as it stands it looks too thin, IMO(y)

Steve

This is interesting glad Wayne raised the question ...is it possible for you to draw on the bust what you think it should be ?

Also be interested in Robs thoughts

Hi everyone

Thanks to Steve ...lots to think about !! ...Arghhh !!!!

Here's a painting related question to those better than me ..and there are so many ..LOL

...the facings etc are black are satin .....how would you represent this .....push the highs ...varnish ? ....

All thoughts /suggestions are welcome

Nap

Hi Kev
My 10 p worth for the facings,
Black Grey, with a couple of washes with Dark Prussian Blue.
with a little buffing after it had dried.

In the flesh it came out ok IMHO.
Buth there again I normally go to you for advice
Mick

Hi Guys

Mick ..your 10p is always welcome ...was thinking Lang the lines of blue in there somewhere

Roger ...your jacket ? ..very dapper mate , cheers for input , think gloss might be too much will probably use that a little to "zing" the lacework .....looking at a satin/ Matt mix and building it up from that
