Tartans can be intimidating. However, if you break it down into its components and slowly build up the design, it's actually not that difficult to paint. If you can paint a (mostly) straight line, then you already have the skills you need to paint a tartan.

Here's an example of the approach applied to a 54mm scale figure. However, I would do larger or smaller figures the same way.

Nice step by step. Good explanation of the process.

I have painted tartans and I adopt the same method and totally agre with you, it's easier than it looks and the results are worth the work.
